Sad to hear that. But I am glad that she served long enough to make you feel that she did well.

Thank the car, and kiss her goodnight.

Can you still drive it? I have heard of people driving them for years with the gasket failed. If it was me, I'd drive it until it left me stranded.

Theres no way. It smelled like moltant metal after. I had to push it for 3 min to get me home because i had a 5 am truck at work and then steal my buddys car. Im going to check my purge line because of not getting a check coolant level. Im aware though. Shes dead i just gotta make sure. Oh and she was barly moving as i pulled into my drive way. So she did not fail me

Sounds like it was running in limp home mode. Must have been VERY hot. Sorry to hear it.

    Chalk up another '99.

What you are looking at is a pully that literally broke in half... also causing my water pump belt to shred... how the !?

May have led to secondary hg death though as i had no coolant in the tank.... is it possible the overheat pressured it out of the overflow hose?

    Re: 99 deville advice overheat

seized idler pulley - not that uncommon -

if it did NOT damage the plastic drive pulley -
you got REALLY - REALLY lucky -

put a new idler pulley and belt on it -
    fill it with coolant -
    start the engine -
check for coolant flow through the PURGE LINE -

if all is good - go but a lottery ticket -

Wait. So it overheated out of the blue, you assumed an HG issue, and just kept driving?

well - a simple idler pulley and belt job just got a little more expensive -

now you need to replace the drive pulley also -
STILL not the end of the world -
