    99 Deville Tail Light Problem.

Posted this in the electrical subforum but not much as far as responses.

Should I just change the pig tails?

Regardless here is a pic of both the socket/bulb and housing.

parking lights work, just not the brake or turn signals ONLY on the bottom/third bulb.

If anyone can help, I would greatly appreciate it. I have spare entire housings and pigtails of necessary.

    Thanks!

Those little peanut bulbs burn out all the time. They should last a year or so. Something is wrong if they go out faster than that on a regular basis.
Could be moisture on the bulb or something wrong with the circuit. Although I couldn't guess what could be wrong with the circuit that would cause a bulb to fry, it either has 12v or less than 12v.
On second thought I have heard of alternators producing a higher voltage or an a/c voltage after a failure. Probably not your problem.

I don't think the bottom bulb functions as a brake light or turn signal.
I'll have to double-check on mine, but that's what I remember.
If it was used as a brake light and turn signal, the bulb would have 2 filiments inside.

That is one nasty looking housing. Remove the bulb and see what the contacts in the socket look like.

I just confirmed on my '95: the bottom bulb of the three is a parking/running light only. No brake light or turn signal. Yours is most likely the same.

Time to swap that rear light harness for one not corroded. Flaky connections will be hard on bulbs.

I agree, that's a nasty looking housing. The bottom one only lights up with the side markers. I also had one side burn up, but that's because the bulbs were old, The replacement I put there still works fine after 3-4 years.
