Thumbs down Deville shake with aftermarket tires

    News Update!!!!!!!!!!

I have read all of these threads and still drove my 2000 deville with the shake and shimmy
I hated it, but oh well, it's my baby.
Had my tech at my job( car sales) look at my tires yesterday. He came to me and asked where my center hub rings were. I looked at him crazy, because I had no idea what he was talking about. I have aftermarket 18 wheels on the car. I did notice the rings when they took off my original wheels, but I thought nothing of it. Called up Discount Tire, he had the center rings in stock
Drove there, and 45 minutes later and cruising at 68 mph,,,,,,,,,, no vibration))))))
    Just a smooth Caddy ride))))))
People, go check if you have center rings, if not get some!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!'
    I'm glad I did.
Drove home the long way, and loved every minute with no shakes))

Thumbs down Deville shake with aftermarket tires

My shake and shimmy are gone!!!!!!

It was the center hub rings. I didn't have any. Got them installed and it is a smooth Cadillac ride again))))) I had the road force, tires rotated, but I didn't do tie rod ends and such. But my vibration is gone)) I drove 85 before I realized it)
I can't wait to drive it in the morning)))))
I have read posts on this since I bought this car. 2 years I think. I was just going to live with it,,,, but no longer)))
My shake and shinny are gone!!!
Nobody said center hub rings until my tech buddy did yesterday. Turns out, he was right,,, and I'm happy.

Center rings? No such thing on my factory wheels.

Hub centric rings. For after market rims with the incorrect hub bore.

    Re: Dreaded shake

OK, strictly for aftermarket. That makes sense, but he said "I did notice the rings when they took off my original wheels". That threw me.

Does that mean that your wheels are not original ??? The factory wheels index on the center bore, not the bolt circle, so they do not need center rings. Many aftermarket wheels use a 114.3 X 5 bolt pattern (incorrect), while our hubs are 115 X 5 - if the aftermarket wheel does not index on the center bore, the first lug nut tightened pulls the wheel off center on the hub and the subsequent lug nut tightening bends the studs inward slightly to compensate.

Proper lug not torque for our cars is 100 lb/ft in a star pattern.

Note the center bore in this 2003 CTS 17" wheel - that large bore fits tightly over the hub flange spigot. The outer, smaller, hole is for the center cap.

Yes Sub, I changed from the original wheels to 18 inch aftermarket wheels about 6 months ago. I never heard of that term until he said it. Did some research and thought, what the heck, if it stops my shimmy, steering wheel, and front seat shake. It's 4 days now. I'm shake free. Had my wife and daughter in the car today, and they have driven it alot. They said it rode smooth
I really like how you and ranger are so quick to reply.
Lets me know my fellow Cadillac lovers got my back))))
This forum has saved me tons of time and money
    Thanks again

Well Ranger, sorry, but I don't mean to throw you but I work at a Cadillac dealer. I got the wheels from a trade in car. They are original, just not to my car. They have metal rings. I'll try to upload a picture this week, if I can.
I got aftermarket wheels 6 months or so ago. Had the shimmy ever since. Just now found out what it was, and I love this forum, so I posted a reply, thinking I may help somebody.
Sub replied to this is well. Thanks

There are no hub centric rings used on these vehicles, with stock rims. What model are the rims from?

Re: Deville shake with aftermarket tires

carlj2012 had dredged up 2 threads from 2008 or so and appended his hub ring posts to them. I just created this new thread, moved the posts to it, and let the old ones go back to sleep. (They had nothing to do with hub centric rings and aftermarket wheels)
