Anyone know how to get the switch pods out of the steering wheel?

I have a light out on my steering wheel. It is my understanding that the switches themselves are not serviceable, the entire switch pod needs to be replaced, is this correct?
How do the pods come out? Does the steering wheel need to be removed?

    Thanks

yes you do have to remove steering wheel

But remove airbag first, second remove screws in plastic behind wheel (2 i think T10), then steering wheel nut and wheel. Have to find a puller that has the hooks with the kit. I had to go to 3 stores before I found one.

Then you can take off the switches...
Search the forum for how to remove steering wheel and the pics will help.

The wheel does not need to be removed, and there are no screws on the back of the wheel.

There are many threads on this subject, here's one:

If you can use a soldering iron, you can replace the bulbs. Otherwise, you'll have to replace the switch.

Sorry, I couldn't get to his profile from the mobile app. Moistcabbage is right on this one. I don't know when they changed the design but my 99 has the screws.

Ended up bringing the car to the mechanic, but he'd never done it before so he brought it to a mechanic buddy of his that was more familiar Cadillacs. He said it took them both 20 minutes fiddling with the tool to get the airbag out.

    ----------------------------------
there is a special tool to remove the air bag -
WITH the tool - about 3 minutes -
WITHOUT the tool - it can be challenging the first time -

They had the right tool, but neither one of them had ever used it before, it took a few minutes to figure it out.

Can you specify this tool? Brand, name, etc. Price?
