Seems they got the repairs made

    Next issue: Belt Molding
Right front passenger door the belt sealing strip was torn at both ends.
So i figure i can replace it.
Look at the FSM and it says "Outer molding and belt sealing strip". No fasteners on Deville just pull up to remove.

It is not that easy. So i search and find.
    http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums...g-removal.html
    And

So i figure i am not trying hard enough. Now that is is all torn to pieces it is still firmly attached to door.
Seems there is a rail in there that the molding locks onto. The harder you pull up the more firmly seated the lock.
Looking at manual again it says i may have to use seville procedure.
Drill out regulator rivets to allow window to drop down so i can get my fat paws to the locking mechinism.

Anyone have a tip? A short cut? a special tool?

I haven't looked at my Deville but I'm guessing it's either screwed in or riveted from the inside. You should be able to see what's holding it on when you look at it with the window down.

    Re: I have issues - 1994 Deville 4.9

Ok I have had a successful result.
There are no fasteners on the Deville
Looked very close at the manual - it mentioned a hooked tool.
So I made a tool; like a slim jim (lockout tool).
The manual says to start at rear but there was not enough room to get down between the door and glass there. So I removed the mirror and went in there.
Once I got the tool in position it took a good pull. Then the trim piece about fell off.

Right front passenger door belt sealing strip - Done

A/c clutch is bad? How so? Clutch will not engage but motor idles fine? So you need to replace clutch hub? Can you take a/c compressor apart to replace hub? Yes I know some folks can take apart compressor. Can you do it?

    > A/c clutch is bad? How so? When not engaged it is grinding and throwing metal filings.
    > So you need to replace clutch hub? Clutch. But they have been in there recently. There is an A/C shop sticker on the core support and signs of die here and there; seems to be quit a bit of die all around the compressor, so I will just replace the whole unit.
    > I know some folks can take apart compressor. Can you do it? If I had to. But rebuilds usually fail. even the store bought rebuilds have a poor history.
Always buy a new unit with clutch if it fits your plans.

    I priced approximate - 100.00 for a clutch - 200 for a rebuilt unit with clutch - 300 for a new unit with clutch

Called a shop to see if I could just do things the easy way. $750.00 parts and labor with a one year warranty.
I ordered the parts needed for about three hundred.
That shop was about 150.00 too high for me.

    Re: I have issues - 1994 Deville 4.9

Maybe I should change the title of this thread?
The lady of this house is not getting along with the 1994 DeVille.

So I got the A/c problem resolved finally
Beat the fancy shop repair by $300.00
Had them do the oil pan gasket and trans service while they had it up on there lift.
Brought it home yesterday and went over it (you know how things can be after a shop has been under the hood).
Got it all checked out and ready to go.
Sent her to work this morning with it: and would you not know she called from the side of the road 50 miles away "BROKE DOWN"
So I ask some questions and her responses lead me to think the fuel pump has died.
Says she stopped and put fuel in it; then a few miles later it went to running poorly and died.
Going this afternoon to look it over

    Re: I have issues - 1994 Deville 4.9

So I went over there and looked it over.
    No codes set
Fuel pump was running, put a gauge on and showed 40psi steady at 36psi - So that should be good enough.
Went over all the fuses - nothing amiss there
Pulled a spark plug and did a dirty spark test - Nothing could not find a spark.
Pulled the distributor cap - it is ugly in there - kind of looks like original equipment - all the plastics inside are cooked and disintegrating - the cap does not look to good ether.
So we talk about it and she says; it went to running real bad so she pulled over - tried to restart it and that was it - cranked but did not start again.
Does this read as a distributor failure?
If so how would you test the distributor to verify?

Ignition system failures can happen quickly and without warning.
Let us know what you find.

    Well
    I did the two tests
PICK-UP COIL TEST #1: (open circuit) = passed
PICK-UP COIL TEST #2: steady state value between 500 and 1500 Ohms at all times
    2k .838 = pass I guess

ICM was likely at fault - off to noodle this one out - is there a test for it?

    did you pull any codes?
did you test the cam sensor under the distributor?

    Re: I have issues - 1994 Deville 4.9

Did you pull any codes? That was the first thing I checked - No codes set
    Then I checked
    > All fuses
    > fuel pump and fuel pressure - Pump audible - pressure steady about 36psi
    > power at Bat terminal on distributor cap.
Then I pulled a spark plug and checked for spark - No spark present

Did you test the cam sensor under the distributor? No I did not - I figured something like that would set a code.
    Please explain.

    ----------

    This was interesting
    http://forums.carcraft.com/70/661769...odule-testing/

    Easy tests for HEI system:

    1. Test for power at the pink BAT terminal. You should have battery voltage w/ the key in the start and RUN positions.

    2. Connect the ground side of your test lamp to the battery POSITIVE cable. Probe the TACH terminal on the dist. cap while a helper attempts to start the engine. The test lamp should blink repeatedly as the engine cranks. No blink= bad module or pickup coil. Further testing is required to pinpoint the problem. Blink but no spark = bad ignition coil.

    3. Remove the cap & rotor. Remove the green & white leads from the module. Connect your ohmmeter to the green & white leads. You should have approx. 800-1500 ohms depending on the ambient temperature. Open circuit (infinite ohms) = bad pickup coil.

Wiggle the green & white leads as you test. Ohm reading should remain constant if the leads are good. If the reading varies as the leads are wiggled, the pickup coil is bad. You'll often find broken pickup coil leads this way.

    4. DVOM (meter) still connected to green & white leads. Set your DVOM to AC VOLTS. Have a helper crank the engine as you watch the AC VOLTS reading. A good pickup coil will produce about 3V AC when cranking. Less than approx. 2V AC indicates a bad pickup coil.

Bummer I have the distributor laying here in the floor.
Maybe I can rig a way to power it?

ICM was likely at fault - off to noodle this one out - is there a test for it?
So I got a battery to power the distributor and a drill to turn the shaft.
    Test.
Connect the ground side of your test lamp to the battery POSITIVE cable. Probe the TACH terminal on the dist. cap while a helper attempts to start the engine.
The test lamp should blink repeatedly as the engine cranks

    > ICM passed that test.

    So they say test coil
    http://www.ehow.com/how_12023418_tro...-hei-coil.html
    Test 1
Remove the distributor cap and set the ohmmeter to the “High” scale.
Place one lead onto the positive terminal inside the distributor cap while keeping the other lead grounded on a metal surface.
The resistance reading should display less than one ohm. Replace the coil if the reading displays more than one ohm.

    > Set to 200k test result 11.3 0hms = Failure?

    Test 2
Place one lead onto the positive terminal inside the distributor cap while placing the other lead onto the rotor button. The resistance reading should display between 6,000 and 30,000 ohms. Replace the coil if the readings show infinity.

    > Could not get a reading = infinity = failure?

    I think I have a bad coil.

    Re: I have issues - 1994 Deville 4.9

So is this reading as a bad coil?
Never heard of a coil failing in such a way.

But it would account for no codes; It would not miss and the computer would see everything reporting as normal.

I would really like to say I found the problem.

Can you think of any other tests I should perform?
