Took the '00 Deville to the shop for HG repair...

Bought the car with a blown HG project for cheap several months ago and took it to a guy yesterday to do the deed. He uses Norms inserts and is charging me $2,900. He is pretty well known for Northstar repair in these parts. The price seemed fair enough since he is actually just around the corner from me. He says he can start next week and that it will take about 5 days.

I promised my wife she could have this car when it was fixed, so I figured I would go ahead and get it done. She has been very understanding and supportive of me with my new 65-80 hour a week job.

When it's fixed I will pare down my stock of old clunker Caddys and get myself something nice too.

Nice! 30,000 miles ago I had a shop do the norm serts around here for about the same price...Running strong ever since! Bought the car for $1000 knowing it was HGs, and now I have a great daily driver!

    paying someone else almost $3000
for a job you KNOW you can do yourself for under $1000
must really chap your hide -

but without the TIME to do it - you are sorta stuck -

so - what are you going to get for yourself?

It does indeed "chap my hide". But there is just no way I will ever find time to tackle it.

As for myself, I'm thinking DTS. Flexible on year, but prefer a darker color.

He is a guy named Jimmy in Indian Trail or Stallings, JM Auto. They do a bunch of Northstars.

    Great
Did you check on them occassionally?
    Hope they did great work.
Usually even after paying big money you find stuff messed up or half done.

I let a shop do some work on the Eldorado.
    Went and checked on them.
They had it on the lift wrong, Did not get under the front sub frame with one arm. It folded over the undeside front fender seam.
    I was not happy.
Other than that they did a good job.

When I had my tires put on they did the same thing and days later I saw another deville with the same thing. It was some elderly couple in a parking lot and they were looking as if somebody had hit them. I talk to them and asked if they had tires put on lately and they had just had them done that day, but at a different place from where I went.

I had a oil change done and my fenders curved out also. Crap design by cadillac or is the mechanic not lifting it properly?

It's the "tech" not knowing where to put the lift pads.
