Oil smoke common after head gasket repair?

As I posted elsewhere, I got the 2000 SDV back from the shop. It runs great and drives great, but when I gun it it smokes. Is that common after head gasket repair? It has also been sitting for over a year and before that was driven by an old man around town. Hope it clears up.

No, it's not common. Shouldn't be smoking at all.

Looks like blueish oil smoke. Smokes on wot. I thought it might clear up if I gave it a few, but when I parked it kept smoking for several seconds and created quite a billow.

I just can't get how does it look like. Is it like fender level doesn't match the door level?

I think I'm okay... Looks like it was overfilled with oil. It must have been burning off the overage. I took her back out this morning and she is not smoking anymore. Whew!!!

How much did they overfill it? Must have been a lot to smoke like that.

Bulged lower fender and rocker panels on these cars comes from improper placement of the hoist lift pads - for total car lift there are 4 hard pads on the body metal. It's shown in the GM/Helm service manuals. There are other threads in CF with just this sort of damage. The shop is fully responsible.

Re: Oil smoke common after head gasket repair?

Something's wrong here - the shop overfilled the oil ???? ......... and crushed the lower fender/rocker panels ???? Sounds like someone, somewhere does not have the big picture.

Nobody crushed my fenders... That was somebody else. Don't know why they overfilled oil.

Ok, so this is not the first time my eyes have deceived me. I guess being over 40 means something after all. Check the oil level again and it is perfect.

The car is not smoking at all today. Do you suppose a ring was stuck? Maybe I busted it free with all of the WOT'S...

I've never seen it on another car, I've owned 3 DTS's and a 2006 impala and CLK 430 and I've never had that problem with any other car only my DTS's all 3 of the had the fenders curve out at some point. I've even seen 06+ DTS with the fenders curved out. It's definitely cadillac!

No, it's a "mechanic" that doesn't understand what a lift point is. Fender pinch welds/flanges are NOT a load bearing part of the car. hire a tow truck with a crane to lift ANY car by the fenders, and see what happens.
