    99 Deville Leveling System.....

    Hi Ya'll,

Just picked up a 99 Deville, 70k miles. I'm having an issue with the rear leveling system. It's not too low like all the other posts I've seen. It's WAY TOO HIGH! The car looks like a cat in heat with it's rear end in the air.

I've checked the fuses, codes and even tried to adjust the sensor. Anything I'm missing besides a new pump?

Can someone give me a measurement for the rear end to go off of?

    Thanks everyone!

    --------------------
the Electronic Level Control system is pretty simple -

it consists of rear shocks that use built in air bladders
that are inflated or deflated to maintain the proper ride height
regardless of weight in the back seat and trunk -

the level control switch senses the ride height -
and either signals the compressor to engage to inflate the air bladders -
or signals the exhaust valve to open - and deflate the air bladders -
or do neither if the ride height is correct -

the compressor assembly houses the compressor and exhaust valve -
to either inflate or deflate the air bladders in the shocks -

    ------------

if the level switch isn't signaling the exhaust valve to open -
the rear will sit high -
likewise - if the exhaust valve doesn't open -
the rear will sit high -

Both my 97 &98 are @ 26" measured top center of wheel opening to the ground. I set mine up from FSM measurements, so they're close anyways. Without measuring: top of tire maybe 1/2" hidden(with driver in car). If you can see all of the tire it's high.

Have you pulled the DTC's? I'd almost bet you'll find C0660 - Level Control Exhaust Valve Circuit Malfunction.

I have pulled the codes from the dash, but not with a code reader. No suspension codes. No codes as a matter of fact.

Is there a way to test the switch on the driver's rear tire or do you just replace it?

You can adjust it, so yes it can be tested there also.

I've already adjusted it "down" so I'm assuming that it's the pump. Thanks for your help!

    ----------

Well just pulled to see if there were any codes that popped up. No codes, so I guess I will try replacing the switch before the pump.

    Thanks again all!

Well I'm not going to replace the pump till after I get back from vacation next week. In the mean time, is there any way to temporally "deflate" the system a bit?

Manually operate the switch or unplug the air line from one of the shocks.
