Re: True or false: must get Cat from dealership only?

there are a few years that the GM has changed the OEM cat to be just the cat and the resonator (5 feet long or so as mentioned earlier)

    still very expensive though

    Yes they are

    ----------

That why I went for a 2000 to 05 cat. The only thing that I did was to cut the pipe after the resinator

Jus curious but can't these be pulled at a local junk yard for a fraction of what y'all are saying the cost is at your Factory Distributors???

Or would there be some labor intensive problem at a u pull it yard that makes it more cost effective to jus order it from a parts dealer???

    Ahhh
    That explains a lot

BUT if I really wanted to I could jus buy another $500/$700 Deville and use it as a parts car.

    Who would know, ya know?

Unless the Vin is on each part... ...

supposedly the salvage yards can sell used catalytic converters if they sell the part whole (no cutting only bolt off)

Yea that was my initial thought but then I was thinking the time involved might be considerable so it would prolly be better to buy a whole Deville and put it in the garage and dismantle it... As needed.

Sandoval, I mistook you for the San Diego convertor guy (http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums...er-2004-a.html) when I first answered your post. I had answered three people the day before and when I saw your post about replacing the convertor I thought you were one of the other two because I recognized your screen name. You were the door jamb wiring guy, glad you got that fixed BTW. Forget what I said about a California convertor, but the dealer is still expensive. You can get cats good for TX at most auto parts stores. Napa is who I use.

Re: True or false: must get Cat from dealership only?

the only issue im having is that alot of people online have said that once they replaced the cat, not long after the SES light lit back up again. See what i did friday was i bought a Cataclean from pepboys. supposedly if the cat is dirty or whatever it cleans it. seen really good reviews on it and decided to try the lesser expensive alternative. well that didnt work. once i put it in the tank, had cleared the SES light and at 1 hour and 44 mins of drive time it lit up again. still getting the P0420 code. so should I replace the o2 sensors or replace the cat and resonator together?

Re: True or false: must get Cat from dealership only?

If the O2 was bad you woudn't be getting a code for the convertor. You can by just a cat for the least $ but it has to be cut out and welded in, or the bolt in front & cut clamp rear assembly for a Deville that costs more.
