    P0231 code

98 caddy deville vin-Y. turns over but no start , get code P0231 (low voltage to fuel pump) or something. I can get it to start if i hook 12v constant to fuel pump fuse , and runs normal.....no codes or anything. obviously not getting voltage for fuel pump relay to work. any suggestions or things i can basically check ?? fuse & relay are good. i was thinking maybe ignition 1 relay ??? Thank You , Tim

Try swapping the inadvertent power relay into the IGN1 relay and see if the pump fuse powers up during cranking and it runs. If so the IGN1 Relay is obviously toast.

    Re: P0231 code

i swapped the relays and it started, swapped them back......and it started !!! go figure !! so i replaced ignition 1 relay and fuel pump relay and fuse , and so far it has been ok.........repeat....SO FAR. i actually think i have a bad ground , or connection off the PCM. But maybe the ign relay was intrmnt.....who knows. anyone else please chime in with any comments. Thanks Vernon , Tim

    Re: P0231 code

You're welcome Tim, yeah it could be a lot of things. But it was probably the IGN1 Relay. Sometimes bad relays will start working intermittently after I pull them out and they get tossed around a little but they rarely stay working again for long. Cleaning and tightening grounds is always a good idea when electrical problems star arising.

Maybe your relay contacts where oxidized and you cleaned them up by removing and reinserting them.

yes ranger you never know , i also had a broken wire on the "inadvernt power relay" socket from when i replaced the socket 2 years ago , dont know what that relay is actually for or had anything to do with this problem. i should replace the ignition relay socket to be safe. tx , tim
