Smoken' (and not in a good way)

So I am on my way home from lunch today when I see smoke billowing out the steering column (right by the signal turn / windsheild wiper arm)

I did have the wipers on for a bit. I opened the window , truned off the wipers .......wondered if I shoud stop, then it (the smoken') stopped !

Turned the wipers on again , all ok - signal light works - as far as I know all lights works.

Any ideas ? She is due for an oil change soon so I will mention it to my mechanic - wiring issues scare me .........sometimes impossible to trouble shoot .

I recenlty had a remote starter put in could that be it ? (recenlty being about a month ago ) - Remote starter still works as well (along with door locks)

Just don't want to catch fire one day ........

Re: Smoken' (and not in a good way)

So I searched (Dooooooooooooh) and there was an exact thread on similar issue. There was (as expected ) claims of no worries to get it fixed. Internet diagnosis of the car is not an exact science

Seeing how it stopped all by itself as suddenly as it started, and it appears all electrical components are working , I am hoping it was the "grease" burn off issue from the other post.

I will check all the lights and everything electrical today and if all is well , I will do nothing unless it happens again.

dude, i know exactly what you are talking about. i had a 91 deville that had the same problem, only it happened whenever it wanted to, regardless of what i had goin on at that time. it came right from crack of the column meets the wheel and smelled like electrical burning to me; like plastic coating or something. fortunately i sold the car before i figured it out, but it did go away on its own every time; i just shut the car off for a few minutes each time. it was scary as hell.
