    Armrest removal

I've got new window switches to install in the armrest on the driver's side door. How do I get the armrest off to do it without boogering up more than is already broken?

    Re: Armrest removal

I've also yet to figure out how to pull the vent louvers from the dash to remove the dashboard cover without scratching them up. The pictures in the dealer service manual help some, but they assume a certain level of previous knowledge that I'm lacking. I got the cover off, replaced my stereo speakers, and would like to fasten the 4 screws behind the louvers in their proper place.

There are a bunch of posts around for the arm rest. Do a search for it and you should find some that will help you. You just pry the switches out.

There should be two bolts (maybe three) holding the armrest to the hinge. Take these off, and it comes right out. With the armrest, i believe on the back by the seat controls, there is a notch cut out. You may need to press down on the door armrest padding to see it better. Insert a screwdriver, and push towards the switches. Then they just tilt and lift out.

Yes, the notch at the back was the key. My clip was a little bent from previous ministrations by a former owner, so it took much more force than I was willing to inflict on 20 year old plastic without having seen an armrest apart. I solved that problem by going to the local auto recycler and crawling through some stripped Fleetwoods and seeing how they come apart. Removing and reinstalling parts on a junker for practice makes me feel better about mine not joining them anytime soon.
