    Starting Issues

I own a '93 sedan deville and I have trouble starting it up at times. It would hesitate to start when I turn the keys but eventually will start but the more I turn the car on it would get worse and my lights would dim. My assumption would be a new battery. Any suggestions?

    Re: Starting Issues

Hit up a parts store and have them test your alternator and battery. Plus, trouble codes if you have any.

Test battery, alternator, or take to auto store to test, clean cables.

I would recommend checking for Diagnostic Trouble Codes -

if you don't know how - go here and read the ENTIRE post -

    http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums...odes-dtcs.html

if you have any codes - post them here -
    ALONG WITH THEIR DEFINITIONS -
    -----------------------------
also check the fuel pump pressure and Fuel Pressure Regulator -

    Re: Starting Issues

When you say it hesitates to start, does it crank slowly, or even hesitate when cranking?
If the battery and alternator check out okay, your starter may be dying.

I checked my battery with my multimeter and it came out fine. It won't start period and the lights dim when i turn the key. I changed my spark plugs a couple of weeks ago.

When you say it won't start, does it crank? or do nothing but dim the lights?

It doesn't crank at all and the lights dim when i turn the key. My friends say it's my starter but I'm not sure.

    Re: Starting Issues

That's where my vote is as well.
Replacing the starter is not too bad on the 4.9. I've done mine recently.
It's easiest if you jack the car up to where you can access it from both below and above.
There are 2 shields to remove below, 2 wire connections (from above), and 2 bolts holding the starter. disconnect the wires before you remove the mounting bolts.

Exactly how did you test the battery?

    Re: Starting Issues

If it were the ICM, the car would still crank, but would not fire.
The OP is not getting any cranking action.
