96 DeVille.. HELP!!!"Steering Column replaced wont turn over"
i just recently replaced the entire steering column in my 1996 deville and I am only getting minimal dash lights and ignition will mot turn over i have tried replaceing the starter and fuses but it just wont crank i was wondering if the computer can be reset to match the new key and new columnt ???? I thought i had gotten lucky by finding an entire column in tact and with a key at a scrap yard for a pretty cheap. IS there a way to program the key to the engine myself or does the key have to be programmed to the engine by a genuine cadilllac dealer. could this be the reason the car will do nothing when i turn the key trying to crank the engine.. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME ASAP I'VE TRIED ALL I CAN AND THESE FORUMS ARE MY LAST DYING RESORT I NEED TO HAVE THIS CAR SOLD BY THE END OF THE MONTH OR IM GONNA GO BANKRUPT IM DOWN TO MY LAST DOLLARS AND GOT 4KIDS AND ONE ON DA WAY!!!!!!

If you are not getting dash lights it may have something to do with the installation. Check all the wiring you replaced again.
It's possible it could be a VATS problem. There are 15 different resistor combinations and your replacement column and key are probably different from the module in the car. Measure the resistance on your old key resistor (pellet) and get a replacement with the same resistor. Have that key recut to fit the new column lock.
OR you could bypass VATS.
Plenty more if you just Google "gm vats bypass".
