Water Pump O Ring issue 96 Deville 4.6L

All set to install new waterpump. Cleaned out the groove on the Water Pump Housing that accepts the ring. Keeps popping out. Tried Vaseline and Sil-Glyde for adhesion
and difficult to keep in place without the ring slipping out of the groove. Concerned about locking the pump in and pinching or crimping the O ring. I am thinking about laying
a light film of Hi Temp Red RTV Silicone in the groove that accepts the o ring to help keep it in there and letting it set up before I lock in the pump. My thinking is that the Red
RTV Silicone will help keep the o ring in place and I am good to go with locking the pump in. Not sure if the Red RTV will hurt the o ring. I'm out of ideas. Anyone have a better
solution or any thoughts on my idea of using the Red RTV to keep the o ring in place. I appreciate your help as always.

Pack the groove with petroleum jelly. That should hold it in place. RTV might make it tough to remove should the need ever arise again.
