Is it in fact low on coolant? Proper level is about 1/2 full, no lower. If it is at the correct level, then it's probably a bad level sensor in the surge tank. You'll have to replace the tank.

Re: Cadillac Deville 2000,check coolant level

It's not an "air bubble" - the coolant reservoir should be about half full, cold. NEVER check or adjust coolant level when hot. If the coolant is at the proper level, cold, and the message returns, there's a problem with either the level sensor or its wiring.

there is a float type switch/sensor in the coolant serge tank -

the sensor is not serviceable -
you could try flushing the tank with a garden hose -
but 99% of the time - the serge tank must be replaced -

the dealer wants over $175 for this part -
you have a couple of choices -
get a new aftermarket DOORMAN brand part - $65.73 with FREE shipping -

    http://www.amazon.com/Dorman-603-122-Coolant-Recovery-Kit/dp/B003S5XCDQ/ref=au_pf_pfg_s?ie=UTF8&Make=Cadillac|46&Model=DeV ille|406&Year=2000|2000&carId=001&n=15684181&newCa r=1&s=automotive&vehicleType=automotive
    -----------------------

OR - get the original delco part #25774005 - for $69.92 - with FREE shipping -
    from autopartstomorrow - through Amazon.com

the part is not hard to change

I too had similar problem with 2001. I just shorted out the sensor with a paperclip i think to make the message go away for good.
Cooling system is closed so unless you have a leak, you should not lose fluid. An eye on the temp gauge and a peek at the reservoir every once and a while is good enough for me.
Of course, best thing to do is change the sensor as basscat mentioned above.
