Buying new coil packs for 04 DTS

So, the parts stores show 4 packs (one side of the engine) in their pics. For around $200-$275. Is this the cost for both or do I have to buy this twice to replace all coils.

    Rockauto

    A/C Delco $167

    Airtex/Wells $145

I thought starting in '04 you could buy individual coils?

The 2004 coil pack is $168 in RockAuto.

Do some more homework - and why replace all the coils ???

I have never seen individual coils for a 2000+ Northstar available from any supplier. And certainly not GM.

During the four years I drove my '04 DTS I did not experience any ignition issues so I have zero first person experience with the coil packs.

If anyone has a failed 2000+ Northstar coil pack gathering dust, I would welcome the opportunity to conduct an examination/autopsy and report the details.

Jim, my understanding is that 2000-2003 they used the ignition cassette with the coils permanently mounted in it. In '04 GM went to what is pictured above with individual serviceable coils. The picture seems to bear that out as they appear to be removable.

    Here I go disagreeing again.

What is removable is the so-called "boot"; which is nothing more or less than the long-reach high voltage connection between the coil and the spark plug.

As an editorial aside: I hope to live long enough to witness the day the automotive industry drops the "coil" terminology and starts calling them what they are. TRANSFORMERS. Not much chance of that happening!!

Thanks for the offer, but what is pictured (the entire half side with wire harness) is really what i want (times 2) only because the old wiring ends are pretty fragile and cracked up. So i'm guessing this part is sold like it shows (4 coils, not all 8)
