    2002 deville air direction control

I all of a sudden can not control the direction of the air inside. it is stuck blowing on the floor. It was making a clunking noise and that has stopped but no direction control. Any ideas and how do i take the interior piece off below the stereo unit so i can access thag area? any help would be appreciated.

Forgive my ignorance but I haven't located that section. I am using the app on my phone and don't see it. Could you point me in the right direction?

Go in by removing the glove box and the right lower kick panel on the console base.

There may be other actuators in a Deville..................

There are 3 actuators. #47 is the one you are after.

Ok great thanks for the info. my kick panel is one piece. it almost feels like it is held on by those plastic push things not by screws but i am afraid to pull too hard not knowing.

Re: 2002 deville air direction control

Are you talking about the knee bolster (#29 & #52)? If so, there are no screws or plastic push rivets. They pull straight out (NOT downward). Pull down and you will destroy the retaining pins and those bolsters are not cheap.

There are hidden screws. You need to remove #29 & #52 to reveal them.

Re: 2002 deville air direction control

Hey Ranger, I just had the same thing happen to my 02 DTS. I went in from the drivers side and could see the faulty blend actuator.. but, there was not room to do anything. Where can I find a tear down procedure for the car (hopefully not a fee) I dont mind turning a bolt but this is really rediculous.. Help! Sorry if i am jacking the thread.. dont mean to. Ranger could you pers message me with possible places to look. I only have the crapy autozone manual and it doesnt cover this..
thanks, and i hope the other person here finds the right answers too

Re: 2002 deville air direction control

Dave, You're gonna need a FSM for the actual procedure. Seeing as you have a DTS you will probably have to remove the center console. Not too big of a deal. Just 4 bolts holding it to the floor. One in each corner and it should slide back out of the way. You may have to remove the top wood panel and disconnect the shift cable to get some slack, but again, no big deal. Just pull up on the shift knob to remove it and then pry up on the rear edge of the panel. The cable is just held on with a retaining clip.
