96 Deville - A/C Blower Motor (runs continuously when key is turned off)

Recently I noticed the blower motor does not turn off! I have to unplug the connector at the blower (fan) to get the motor to turn off.

    1996 Cadillac Deville

It's summer in Texas and although always running is better than not running, I would like to get to the bottom of this.

Is there a blower relay somewhere that may cause this kind of problem (or) is this controlled by the A/C control module (under dash?).

Thanks in advance for any help.
    Regards
    Chuck

the problem is most likely within the module built into the blower motor -

    have you checked for DTC's?

Thanks Basscat/Ranger, you're probably right "time to replace the blower". I actually tried to get this done last season because of the connector socket. It doesnt hold the connector in solidly. The probelm was, I could NOT get the new motor/cage assy in. There just wasnt enough room. I finally threw in the towel and put the old one back. Is there a trick to installing the motor/cage assy (short of lifting the engine or something ridiculous like that)?
    thanks for your help

Yup, the trick is you have to rock the engine forward a bit to get enough clearance. Not quite as hard as it sounds. There is a tutorial in the Tech Tips section.

Ranger is absolutely correct. I have a 96 Cadillac Seville SLS. I pulled a blower motor from a junk yard and installed it on my car. Soon as I hooked up the battery, the blower came on and stayed on. So I searched online and joined this forum. Ranger is a genius!!! The control module is built in the blower motor! So I went to Murray's and bought a new one for 200 bucks. Before I installed it, I hooked up the blower and it worked perfectly!! Now I have A/C and everything else thanks to you guys. Wasn't that hard to do. I didn't use any ratchet strap on anything like that. Just pulled one of the ignition coils that was close to the old blower, solenoid purge valve and moved some of the spark plug wires out of the way. There is a long wire that runs across the spark plugs and next to an O2 sensor. I un-clipped it and pushed it downward. Made it alot easier. Ripped the old motor out and I took one of the screws that held the new connecter on the new blower out and worked the new blower motor in. Got confused with the new one at first about the heat shield. Ended up putting that on last and tightening down the three bolts. Made sense! I just wanna thank Ranger and everyone else for the great info!

The Northstar cars I've dealt with I was able to get the fan out without moving the engine at all. It's not fun working back there tho. This is one of those cases were you want to use a new part because the fans are a known problem.
