Okay so, like I said I attempted pulling the codes and all that came up in the FDC was .7.0 and on the ECC Econ flashed so I pressed it, and F.8.5. Came up on the FDC...other than that. Nothing...also on the speedometer only the service now and service soon light illuminated...nothing else illuminated up there...is this normal that only these warning lights illuminate? And also what does F.8.5 mean? It's not in the index..

I think you entered the "parameter readout" (for lack of a better term) mode (used for certain diagnostics). Re-read the sticky and try pulling the codes again.

Is there a sticky for somebody with an especially small sized brain because it seemed idiot proof...lol...I held off and warmer for like 4 seconds...dash turned all green then basically immmediatly went to .7.0 on the FDC. Should the car be running when I do this or just electric on?

If all you got was .7.0 and nothing after that, you have no codes stored.

If theres no codes what should I look for on this strange looping idle. Also, this is something that usually only happens at startup I'm thinking...and I mean it's something that hasn't been happening all the time either...i mean for example...I drove today for a few miles and it was fine the idle seemed smooth...strange

Like I said before, I'd start by looking for a vacuum leak if I had a loping idle.

As I noted earlier, I'm having the same issue. I have checked for a vacuum leak and did not note any. Mine also seems to only be at start-up occasionally and when first starting out in the morning. I don't have any codes either so I'm a little at a loss.

I had one disconnected vac hose which was surprising...then one was very very worn bent and flattened...I replaced and it seems like it may be rememdied

I checked all of mine as best as I could but will probably need to remove the air cleaner in order to see all of them around the TBI.

Yeah, I did remove that housing and basically felt around every single hose...back to my first post, I think seafoam also was the culprit honestly

Re: 1988 Deville Very intetresting Idle

Well i am having the same problem. It has an idle that goes up and down at it cuts off when i am driving it. When i open up the hood i notice that a plumger looking peice is coming out and putting pressure on the idle peice. Now i dont know much about cars and i am very broke. I dont want to take it somewhere and get ripped off. Please tell me if this is a self fix or not and how i could do it
