    Key and Keyless Entry Question

    Hi all,

I searched the archives and still need a bit of help. I purchased a salvage (flood) 2001 DeVille DTS. There was a key inside it as well as a fob. The fob has a #1 on the back (which I think is good). The key works in the ignition, but since it wasn't attached to the fob I don't know if it's the "#1" key. Is there any way to tell?

The fob doesn't work, but the car is pretty messed up electrically right now. After the battery is unhooked for a few months, does the #1 fob need reprogrammed or should it be okay?

    Thanks,
    Jim

Cool Re: Key and Keyless Entry Question

The fob probably needs to be reprogrammed.....

The electronics could be pretty messed up since it was flooded.
Any Caddy dealer should be able to reprogram it for you for free...

But alot of them like to charge you 40, 50, 60 bucks...

If thats the case...look for the instructions on the internet for doing it yourself.. and the number 1 on the back of the remote means its 1 of 2 and it controls the 1st seat setting when entering the car.... You can always purchase more remotes later for around $30 - $40....

    Hope this helps ...

Email me some pics of the car...I'd like to check it out

The electronics are pretty messed up. Not everything works and the things that do work are either intermittent or flaky. I need to take every piece of interior trim, seats, console dash, carpet, etc. out of it. Every little black or silver box needs to come out, too. The good news is that most of the electronics are sealed. The power distribution boxes, however, are not sealed so things are getting power intermittently.

Since my uncle's in the biz, I can get all the parts I need to get it back in running condition - even if the motor is bad - and still come in about 1/2 of book value.

We'll see what happens.....this is my first flood. Usually the cars I get from him are accident/theft damaged.

    Thanks for the info!
