HELP!! 1993 DeVille Tune Up inquiry

I recently purchased a 1993 De Ville with a 4.9. I am not certain when the motor should be tuned up. I have 80,000 miles on it. I know that the Northstar doesn't require one until 100,000. Does anyone have this information?

Firstly, when you purchased the 1993, did you ask the person you bought it from when it was last tuned up. And knowing it has 80k on it I wouldnt do any tuning up until around 120k, because as long as the engine is running strong, and nothing is leaking, it should go to about 120-150k without any problems, good luck.

If you don't know when it was done, drain and refille the coolant. Leave the "tune up" alone. My '92 (4.9) had 125K on it when I traded it and had original plugs and wires and ran great.

Concerning spark plugs, from what I recall, 1992 was the first year for platinum plugs good for 100,000 or so. Personally, I would never wait that long to do plugs, but to each their own.
