Best Brake Pads / Rotors for 99 Deville - Any Advice???

Hi there, I am getting ready to do a front brake job and I'm going to be replacing both the front Rotors & Brake Pads.

I've been searching all over the web trying to find something - but there are too many brands/options to choose from....without a lot of reviews available. My main goal is to do this on a budget...but yet trying to get best quality for my money. I don't want to put $300-400 into a car when I can get by with about $150-200 if I shop wisely.

    1999 Deville - Base - Standard - Front

    ROTORS:
I've looked at the R1 Concepts rotors, seen the Wagner ones (Advance AP), Duralast ones (Autozone) as well as other brands like Centric and Raybestos. Don't want drilled! Would prefer a vented model.

    BRAKE PADs
I've seen the Wagner Thermo Quiet, Raybestos, Bendix and Posi Quiet (from R1 Concepts). I was leaning towards Ceramic, but I've never had them before. Trying to cut down on the brake dust!

My budget is around $120-150 for both pieces (rotors & pads).

The only real advice I've seen given on here is for the Raybestos rotors/pads, but I'm trying to find out if anyone has tried anything else or if this is truly the best way to go?

Thanks for any recommendations or advice!!! Planning on doing the job in about 2 weeks!

Go to Autozone. They have rotors for about $30 each. Then buy their $30-40 pads and there you go. All for less than $100.

I'd bet you can get away for less than $100 at Napa as well and I'd trust their parts more than AZ's. Or try rockauto.

When it comes to saving my ass and that of my loved ones, I never skimp on brakes! Other than OE, I use Wagner Thermoquiet rotors and pads. To reduce the wheel nasties I have used ceramic pads although they can sometimes be a little noisy when cold.

I put Raybestos from Rockauto on my 98 Deville, after about 6 months they seem to be holding up well. On my son's 01 Deville, I put the better Autozone pads and rotors front and rear, I believe they were the Duralast, and I am impressed that they are doing well after 6 months also. They were priced about the same as the Raybestos, about $130 for the front.

Re: Best Brake Pads / Rotors for 99 Deville - Any Advice???

Man I always put cheap ass rotors and pads on my DTS from Autozone. The pads are always Duralast. Every other pad change, I change the rotors. But they always seem to hold up good. I change the rotors not because they warp, I don't have a machine shop so I can't resurface the rotors and I won't throw pads on a rotor more than 1 time without it getting resurfaced. So I just change them to new rotors. It's cheap enough. I was gonna get a set of rotors resurfaced once, but they wanted $15 each rotor. Yea right so I just buy rotors.

Ceramics are great breaks. Bendix is good, raybestos is awesome. I used to use a company called akebono. They make ceramic pads and the price was right. As far as rotors you can really get any brand. As long as you don't ride the brake and drive smooth.

Remember to make sure your brakes have the little packet of grease in them. That is SO important to coat the shim with grease to make it quiet. ALSO if you HAVE sliding pins TAKE THEM OUT AND LUBE THEM UP. The main problem for breaks wearing down uneven other than driver habits is improperly lubed sliding pins.

If you wanna get a lil nuts grab some steel wool or a steel brush and clean the caliper while you do the job.

If you do the job right and use a good brand you should never hear a squeak and pads on my car last about 30-40k miles

Re: Best Brake Pads / Rotors for 99 Deville - Any Advice???

AZ rotors are made in China. Raybestos is a very old-line American company. When I did a complete 4-wheel brake job, and I mean new rotors/bearings/pads/calipers/shoes/wheel cylinders/springs/seals/fluid, on my '87 I installed carbon-metallic pads and shoes(drums were turned). CM pads/shoes STOP NOW! That job cost right around $150 in my driveway.
