    That dreaded twilight!

Hubby and I are getting familiar with our recently purchased 92 DeVille and he has spent a lot of time reading your past posts. So far he has replaced a door switch, tested the twilight switch, looked for the control module, tested all the fuses, installed a 12 disc fm modulated CD changer, checked for trouble codes, decoded the build sheet to find out if the car has remote door locks, (no). And now he is looking for the Twilight\DRL control box to see if he can find one in a junkyard. Can anyone tell me where this box is located and how he can identify it as the right part. The problems we are having are: 1. radio and wipers don't turn off right away when I turn off the key, I have to open a door or turn on the interior lights to make the radio and wipers go off. (hubby thinks this may be a sticky ACC relay and putting more voltage through it by activating another accessory breaks the contact. He also thinks that this relay is in the BCM but it might be the twilight control he is looking at) 2. Low beam headlights go off when I turn on the highbeams ( Cannot hear any relays clicking under the hood when the lights are turned on). 3. twilight doesn't work at all. We have a haynes manual and are considering getting the factory service manual.

Thanks in advance for any insight you can provide.

don't know to much about the 92, but with my 97, if you have the factory radio in, it's not supposed to turn off when u take the key out, it cuts off when u open the door, some options should work right when u take the key out, if you don't open any of the doors, windows etc.

Stereo is not supposed to go off with the key. It has a 10 minute delay, however is should go off when you open the door. It's working correctly.
Headlights are also working cvorrectly. When you switch on the highbeans, the low beams go off. Bought mine new and that the correct way it was designed. 2-Down!

Twilight module is behind the RH Information center I believe. Think its a white box, should be pretty easy to spot. Everything else is normal operation, the name given to the feature is RAP (Retained Accessory Power). A bunch of stuff runs through that, including the power windows.

As mentioned, your problems are only perceived. Headlights work as intended, hi or low but no longer both. The radio and wipers still being powered is called RAP (retained accessory power) and as mentioned has a 10 min delay. You would be well advised to get a factory service manual. Haynes & Chilton are useless for all but the basics. You may find one n ebay or go over to caddyinfo.com. Send an email to "tom karen". They bought a '92 Deville manual from me and have since bought a newer car. If they still have it they might be willing to sell it.

Thumbs up Re: That dreded twilight!

I want to thank everyone once again for the assistance you offered. Today hubby found the "passive lighting module" and it was unplugged. The output wire (yellow) showed signs of overheating but when it was cleaned up and plugged in it all worked. Now he will look for cars in the wrecking yards that have options that we don't have and attempt to install them in my car. Some of the things we will look for are: Trunk lid pull down, lighted visor mirrors, keyless entry, rear seat lighted vanity mirrors and the factory bose sound system. As for the factory manual it will have to wait a few weeks.

    Thanks again

Do you have a booster box for jumpstarting a dead car? I find that it is a good way to keep from getting a dead pull down motor. There easy enough to test. Good luck in finding stuff! Shouldn't be too hard to get some neat things, like a digital speedometer.
