Question 1997 deville concours blower motor / climate control question

Remove this ad
hi guys! First post here and I'm hoping you can help me out and I'll sure try to be of help in the community as well. I just bought a 1997 Cadillac Deville Concours. 114,000 miles on it. So far so good with how it runs and rides. I love it. However, Just yesterday I noticed that the blower motor quit working. If you adjust the temp to max cool or max heat... it does not blow ant full speed as it should. While driving down the road, you can feel the air coming out ok from the vent but not at a stop. I've also noticed that while you are driving down the road... the air you can feel seems way more prevalent on the passenger side of the vents VS the drivers side.

Here's what I know. The auto parking brake release still works fine. The electrical connection to the fan itself looks great. Beating on the fan with hammer is unproductive. Searched for other vacuum leaks but haven't really found anything. Hear a slight 'hiss' noise near the pass side fire wall that coninues for a little bit after you shut the engine off. This seems to be coming from the ac line going into the firewall but until this the AC did work very well. Blower motor has a three wire plug of which both power wires going into it do have power.

I'm hoping it's just a blower motor but a little worried about the whole more air on the pass side while headed down the road. I remember my mothers '96 Seville wouldn't blow heat on the passenger side... only blew on the drivers side. Not sure why but I'm hoping I don't have any issues here with that.

Like I said, everything worked perfectly the day before yesterday. Any help or insight here will be VERY appreciated!

things I've done to the vehicle so far:

Mobile one oil change
air filter change
fuel filter change
oil pressure switch change (oil light was blinking now it's not.)

Again.... any help would be great!!! Thanks in avance!!!

When you are driving you are getting a little ram air effect. That's why you are feeling "some" air movement. Sounds like the blower has died. Not uncommon. Before you replace it, check out my "How To" in the Tech Tips section.

Re: 1997 deville concours blower motor / climate control question

Ranger, thanks! I figured it was just a "RAM AIR" effect that I was feeling there but I was a little more worried about it being more prevalent on the passenger side vents than on the drivers side. Think once the motor is rerplaced this will correct itself?

Also... the hiss I hear at the firewall near the passenger side... it continues for a bit after I shut the engine down (a minute or less). Can't find a vacuum leak but it seems to be near where the AC line goes into the firewall. Is this a normal sound? Would this be an indication of a leak in the system?

Also... the AC lines always seem to be frezing cold (even now with the blower motor not working) even if the temp is set to 90. Not sure if thats just how it's designed.

Thanks!

Re: 1997 deville concours blower motor / climate control question

The reason you feel it more on the passengers side is because that is the first exit point. Ther is more ducting to go through to get to the drivers side. You won't feel that when the motor is replaced.

I think the hissing you hear is the A/C system equalizing after you shut down. Turn the A/C off (ECON) and I bet you don't hear it.

Re: 1997 deville concours blower motor / climate control question

OK, maybe the Concours is different. My '97 Deville had AUTO or ECON. No A/C button, but you got the idea.
