Question Idle stalling and sputtering

Remove this ad
I need to find out how to test the fuel relay and fuel pump. I would also be open to any suggestions. Initially stalling occurred without missing (spark timing ) now stalling occurs frequently even while driving.

Re: Idle stalling and sputtering

Get a fuel pressure gauge and screw it on to the fuel service port on the fuel rail. It looks just like a tire valve. You should have around 45 psi fuel pressure. If the pump is running, the relay is good.

Re: Idle stalling and sputtering

To test the wiring/relay, you can take the relay out and jump the hot prong of the socket to either of the other prongs with a piece of wire or paper clip. this is only for testing. DO NOT drive the car this way, it can be dangerous.

Re: Idle stalling and sputtering

Thanks for the advice so far guys. My car is a 1994 Cadillac Deville 4.9 litre. To my suprise i started the cadillac up today after getting a new battery for it and it fired right up to problem it ran and i drove it to schucks to get some oil. Now it wont run or start at all. Im so confused, i tested the codes and it came up with 12-No Distributer Signal and 52-Engine Control Module Reset.
Does that mean i need a new distributer or could it be the coil or anything causing it do that. Any suggestions please i need help. Thanks In Advance.
