2000 Cadillac DHS

Remove this ad
I have a chance to purchase a 2000 DHS. The car is in excellent condition and was well taken care of. The owner has all the service records and I know the caddy dealership where he had it serviced. My question is he wants $7,000 for the car with 66,000 miles on it. I'm only afraid of the fact if I buy it will things start going wrong with the mileage where it is. Now don't get me wrong I know things go wrong with a car. Interior and Exterior are in excellent condition. Runs quiet. The seller told me to take it to any mechanic I want and have it checked out. He is an older man and you know most of them take good care of their cars. No dings, no major scratches, no rips in interior. What I am trying to ask is would you pay $7,000 for a car like this. Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Re: 2000 Cadillac DHS

I bought both of my Deville's from seniors and have been happy with them. At the top of this forum is a sticky on "How to Pull codes" I would suggest you print this off and pull the codes to look for any problems the computers are picking up. I would also take the VIN# to the local Caddy dealer and nicely ask a service adviser to print a copy of the VSI report. This will show any work done to car at the dealer.

When you take the car for a test drive put it in 2nd gear and floor board it until you get up to 70-80 mph. Let your foot off the gas and let it coast down to 20-30 mph and repeat the procedure 3-4 times. Don't worry the PCM won't let you hurt the car it will shift to 3rd before you over rev the motor. Watch the temp gauge if it goes past 12 o'clock don't buy the car.

Have a caddy dealer mechanic look the car over for you they know all the weak spots and what to look for better than an independent mechanic.

For comparison I bought my 02 Deville base from a private party last year for $8250 had 39,000 miles on her. A DHS will be worth a little more than the base model.
