Was that the "River Runs Through It" thread? |

During a 10 minute drive through town, quick stint on freeway (1-2 miles), my DIC started to display "Engine Hot - AC Off" Any ideas? Not too long ago when the gauge got hot, I could turn on the heater and it would go back down, now it just blows cold air. If I punch the gas, then the air gets hot and temp starts to go back down. All this after trying to do routine maintenance on cooling system. |

Everywhere I read states check timing but, the Haynes guide section on checking timing says it's only applicable on the 4.9 engines. |

You should have to do nothing. The system is self purging. I changed y coolant a few months ago and had to top it off 3 times before all the air got purged. Might check the purge line to be sure it is clear and flows coolant. |

No way to "check" timing. It's all electronic with absolutely no adjustments.
Get rid of the Haynes, get on eBay and find a Helm/GM shop manual or subscribe your car to www.alldatadiy.com. Haynes is far too generic for your car: the 4.9 went out 6 years before your car was built......... |

On the '03 it is behind the P/S pump. I could not even see it. Just the line that runs back in there so there must be a port there. |

While I do know about different aspects of car maintenance and care, I am not that familiar with technical terminology. |

I just ordered a maf, hope it takes care of the power issues. I'll post the results later. Is there anyway to check the radiator for blockages? The car gets hot, but when given more power, it goes down a little. The heater does not get hot when this happens either. But, after giving the car some gas, the heater will kick back on for a minute or so. Then, we'll repeat the process. |

Not sure what a compression/vacuum kit is. | | Cadillac Discussion Tools | | |
