After their initial inspection they said the fluid pressure was extremely low and there was metal shavings in the pan. They quoted $700 for dissassembly and reinstallation plus the cost of replacing whatever has broken.
Last time I (partially) changed the fluid, I noticed a dark stain in the pan but no metal. The TCC solenoid code has been coming up it's been growling when idling in drive for a long time, too. Most recently it started shifting hard into second, just before it quit shifting alltogether. It would start off OK but shifted into neutral when it should have gone to second.
Any ideas what could have broken to cause that? Hopefully they won't gouge me on parts.
I may have to sacrafice a Ford to the car gods. |

$2200 in OEM parts with a three year warranty.
$1900 in generic parts with a six month warranty.
They said the pump is gone, the shift solenoids are fried, the chain and sprockets need replaced, gear drums blah, blah, blah... |

All the pump is by the way is 10 metal vanes that is variable, its not a pump in the true sense. Now you have to make some tough calls, they have it all apart, and for you to take it out will cost 700 dollars. If you do decide to get it done, look close at their warranty, its full of cut outs and holes. Good luck on your call |

The total quote for that job was 3300 including the 15 percent sales tax, this was before the GST was lowered to 5 percent. I did not get a break down of the parts, other than it was getting a new Rebuilt TC. The warranty will want you to come back and have them check it after so many miles, this may or may not cost you, there is also a mileage restriction or was when I was looking, I think MR T offers their own financing. |

| They do! I got 12 months no-interest same-as-cash for the parts portion.
That made it not quite so bad. |

For some strange reason my starter failed while they were working on it and they charged me $100 to install a new one. It was the original 14-year-old starter so I got my money's worth.
The only problem I've had is the oil pressure sensor has been going off seemingly randomly since I picked it up. Sometimes it will go off constantly, sometimes not at all, regardless of engine RPM. The oil pump is new and I've had problems with the switch before, I plan to replace it today.
To maintain the 3-year warranty I have to bring it in once a year, free of charge. I'm pretty happy with the service. |

WTF? How do you get water in there? It seems like you have to try purposely to do that. Anyway...
Put a new one on and cleaned the connector off with zero residue quick dry cleaner, hope that fixes it. |

At least you have your car back and can get to work no problem. Alls well that ends well. |
