1995 Deville trunk button

I can open the trunk on my 95 DeVille with the keyfob, or by using the trunk release button on the dash with the ignition on. However, with the ignition off the trunk release button on the dash will not work.

I have been in other 95 and similar year DeVilles and the button in them worked with the ignition off. This was not during the time-delay period after the ignition was turned off. It was after the car had been sitting for hours / days with no key in the ignition.

Is it a programmable option to allow the trunk release button to work with/without the ignition on? If so, how is it programmed?

Don't know much about the 95 Deville... but have you tried the Valet switch...maybe in the glovebox?

My dash trunk release only opens with the key in the on position or running.

It will not work without the key at least turned to on.

On the 4.9 i dont think any of them work with the key off, i seen concours work. I guess that is a defect? doesnt make since to have the trunk lock out in the glove box if you cant use it with the car being off in the first place.

It only works with the key on, most luxury cars of the era were like that. Both my Lincoln and my Brougham you must have the ignition on to open the trunk with the dash button. Its part of an anti-theft thing, so people who break into the car by simply smashing a window cannot just pop the trunk and steal whatever you have in there.
