Forget about the road vibration for now, that can be addressed at a nominal cost later on. If you really only have a week left to have them address anything, have the combustion gas testing done (radiator shops can do this or you can buy the kit at a Napa auto parts store for about 50 bucks and have a local mechanic do it) and bring the results to them. I find that for some odd reasons dealerships tend to weasle out of repairs when corporate is paying for things so it will be hit or miss to ask them to do the test themselves.

You don't want to pay for this job out of your own pocket...
hey, thanks for the reply.
i have like 30k left on my warranty
i just want the problem fixed ASAP
i spoke with the head mechanic and im bringing in the car monday

and thank you for the straightforward answer as far as the startup.
the head mechanic @ ocean cadillac told me 'i cant diagnose the problem as it only happens for 10 seconds'
they replaced all my spark plugs and some other stuff i will post when i get home and see the receipt.

best part is i havent paid ONE DIME for any 'repairs' as they are covering everything. im not too sure on GM make of the car, but Ocean Cadillac in miami has a great team......bad part is i live 30 miles from there so its a hike, but well worth it to fix the caddy

im going to increase the air pressure to 35-40psi after work and drive the highway home to see what happens.
im also reading that i may need a new 'wheel hub assembly' to stop the vibration, but i dont know
when i go to the dealer monday im bringing like 30 pages worth of stuff i printed out for the mechanic to go thru and get my problems fixed

Re: 02 DTS shakes around 60mph to 75mph

Try this when you take it out on the highway for the overheat. After the car is warmed up drop it down in 2nd gear run it around 5000 RPM should put you in the 60-70 MPH range. This should really get the exhaust pressure up and put a load on the gasket if it's weak. Run like this for a mile or two and watch the temp gauge and see if it goes past the 1' o'clock high that you've been experiencing.

Don't worry your PCM will not let you hurt the car it will shift up to 3rd if it needs to.

i will 100% for sure try that this weekend. thank you

my dts
-starts up rough for 10 seconds or so
-transmission shifts HARD going from 1st to 2nd gear
-temperature gauge 'glides' from 12oclock to 1oclock and back to 12 oclock here and there (usually highway)
-car vibrates around 65-70mph

could this mean i need
-new transmission
-new head gasket
????

answers will help me as i am printing this thread out to bring to the mechanic monday morning along with my dts so he can fix everything.

Re: 02 DTS shakes around 60mph to 75mph

A HG is a possibility, but I would not jump to that conclusion on an '02 just from those symptoms alone. Not sure what to tell you about the shifts.

Re: 02 DTS shakes around 60mph to 75mph

My Seville's temperature gauge just started moving around on the highway within the past 2-3 days (not to 1'o clock, but right over the center line and right back). Not sure what to say... did a couple of 2nd gear WOT from 55 to 70mph and it didn't move. I took the cap of the coolant tank and it hasn't used any coolant (thank god, and made sure to purge the car). I'm not worried about headgaskets because they were done in June '08. Something clogged? Radiator? Heater core?

Not enough needle movement to worry about.

Re: 02 DTS shakes around 60mph to 75mph

This is the only N* Cadillac I've come across that does this. Wonder why mine is so sensitive? I also didn't mention that I was in Virginia with my best friend picking up a car with him, with lots of sudden bursts of power (I have a heavy foot) merging on the interstate, about 90 degrees outside with high humidity and barely any stopping. The only time it ever even reached to near 1 o'clock was when I came off the interstate to a stoplight (the car has always done this). Glad it's nothing major, just wanted to do a check.

Sorry to hi-jack the thread DonRSD.

Re: 02 DTS shakes around 60mph to 75mph

well.......

i had the car at the dealer 2 weeks ago in regards to:

-'shakes' @ 60-70mph
they rotated my tires and said that will fix it....IT STILL SHAKES

-on startup the car shakes for 10 seconds.
they ran a test on the car and cleaned the valves and installed new spark plugs. gave me the car back saying 'this is as good as it will get. it will still shake but we cant do anymore'

long story short i brought the car into the caddy dealer monday morning.
they ran a block test and confirmed what i thought.....there is a head gasket leak.
i told them about the vibrating at highway speeds AGAIn and told them it may be the wheel assembly.

plus my transmission shifts very ROUGH from 1st to 2nd gear

i told them "if my car isnt fixed 100%, unlike last time when you guys gave it back to me NOT FIXED....i will return this car and claim a lemon law on it."

any ideas i can call this guy for in regards to the hard shifting, shaky start & highway shakes?
plus when i turn the wheel to the left all the way, the car makes a low oomph sound coming from the right front tire.
i dont think its a cv axle/joint as i had those go on my accords and they make more of a ticking sound than an oonph sound

i will call the dealer tomorrow or friday to get an update but i have a feeling i wont have my car for 2-3 more weeks (its cool as they gave me a loaner car for free)

Re: 02 DTS shakes around 60mph to 75mph

well the dealer has had my car since monday 8/17

called today and they are replacing my head gasket as there is some sort of 'leak' there.
they ran a 'block test' for 24 hours and found the problem

the head gasket wont be done till mon/tuesday.....at that point they will check my other symptoms to see if they are related to the head gasket and are fixed or if further fixing is needed.

funny thing is i JUST bought the car 8/1 w/54k miles on it and its in the shop.
its an inconvience but they are fixing it for FREE so id rather have everything fixed (minor & major) NOW before i have to pay my GMAC deductible for all repairs.

so im still in the tiny 05 cts, which i hate as im 6'3" 270 lbs, but it too is a free 'loaner car'.

Re: 02 DTS shakes around 60mph to 75mph

update

well my head gasket is just about done.
they are also replacing my motor mounts later today once the HG is done.

they said my motor mounts were bad thus the 'jolt' when i change from 1st to 2nd gear.

now they will work on the vibration.
i mentioned that when i bought the car the vibration was on the front tires and pedals.
when they balanced/rotated my tires now the vibration is on my butt when sitting down

so that leads me to believe now the problem is in the rear tires so i will tell them to give me some new tires for free as-well.

hopefully this solves my problems, but ill keep my fingers crossed
only good news is the caddy dealer/gm is doing the repairs so its warrantied and FREE!!!
plus im driving an 05-06 cts which sucks, the car is the size of a civic and its starting to become uncomfortable to drive

Re: 02 DTS shakes around 60mph to 75mph

I had the shakes in my car as well. Finally got it sorted out. Seems like my rims needed center rings, (little hard plastics spacers that go on the hub and center the wheel). No more shakes at any speed. Best $50 I ever spent on the car.

Can you tell us more about the 'center rings' that you've mentioned? Maybe a source or a link?

Thanks!
