hello, new here, new to caddys

Hi there...I just picked up a 95 sedan deville....needs some things..most importanly the AC fixed! It gets pretty hot in AZ.

    Its a white(ext) on a tan(?) interior.

the AC HAD cold airt feel coming from the vents...but on way home it said low on refrigerant and AC compressor off...so now I cant seem to get it to blow to start cycling any refrigerant through it....the switch dont seem to do anything (is that real hard to replace? The owner(dont know how much I trust him right now) said its the switch. On the can LOW side I saw the green coolant leak detector...he CLAIMED he had it filled prior to my getting it...but who knows.

also has a service engine soon on the digi readout...but he had a oil change done recently (says oil is at 92% life so thats good..and I checked it and it was clean)...says window washer is low(no big deal...Ill add some) and the car when is in park says (faulty gear indicator...is that hard to fix?)

It has the 4.9L, not a Northstar (damn) and it SEEMS to do ok...stumbled a little on take off...he says it needs plug wires????? I dont see how they would do that but ok...Ill get some.

Im pretty anal on my maintanance so things will get fixed......but I gotta get this AC going and right quick! For the most part...its not a BAD car...but it needs love for sure...and considering what I gave away to get it...I definitely stepped up in my book(traded a 92 mazda truck for it)

It has about 143,xxx miles on it...isnt totally tore up.....but like I said...it needs some love

thanks for having me here! Hope to learn and help as I can

    anybody from AZ here???

Dont feel bad about the 4.9,it's an almost bulletproof engine,I have 2 cars with 4.9's and I think there terrific, spend some time in the northstar engine section and then tell me how you feel, dont knock the 4.9.

Don't ever feel bad about having a 4.9L. Ever. It is one of, if not the, best Cadillac engines of all time.

When its at 300,000 miles you'll be glad you don't have a Northstar . Plus since it has very limited computer controls, you can actually mod 4.9's.

Make a thread in the Deville forum so we can start helping you with your technical problems. And don't forget to post pics!

There is nothing wrong with the A/C switch. When the system is low on freon it will disable the compressor to save it from self destruction. You need to clear the DTC's to enable the compressor and add some freon. May have to fix the leak first.

Pull the DTC's to see what tripped the SES light.

Re: hello, new here, new to caddys

Ok....so I went and pulled all the codes///here they are in exact order as they were read out on display...the (H) will be History and (C) will be Current

    P022 (H) open TPS
    P027 (H) open throttle signal
P030 (H) ISC RPM out of range
    P031 (H) shorted MAP sensor
    P052 (H) PCM memory reset
    P070 (H) Intermittent TPS
    P090 (C) VCC/TCC brake switch/park/neutral input trouble
P091 (H) PRNDL switch trouble (transaxle range switch)
    I027 (C) PRND321 switch failure
    I032 (C) loss of ABS/TCS data
I052 (H) keep alive memory error
    A047 (C) Low refrigerant charge
R015 (H) passenger initiator circuit resistance high

    NO TCS data

Ok...thats all the codes...I hope with only 4 codes thats pretty good? I obvioulsy have a switch full of goo or needing replaced.

Still cant get the AC to cycle correctly.

(edit)I looked up what DTC was...I did a the PCM clear...it said monitor systems ok...then same codes came back....did this remove the DTCs? and they are just back that fast?

so I guess next step is figuring these all out and getting repaired.

Help is as always much appreciated.

    P090 (C) VCC/TCC brake switch/park/neutral input trouble
This is the one that most likely set the DTC.
    A047 (C) Low refrigerant charge
You will never get the A/C to work with this code. It needs to be serviced.

If the codes came back immediately, then you did not clear them.

It did say codes cleared and then went into checking systems...then they came back...elapsed time maybe 3 mins? if that....but same readings on digital display from day I got it.

If you are saying that the historical codes came back, then they where never cleared.
