Re: Fuel filter location on 2003 Deville DTS

You probably don't need to replace it....they're pretty large and don't have a history of clogging. I believe it is on the frame rail, sort of under the driver's side of the rear seat. Two fittings, one a quick connect, the other hex head. Keep your face out of the way......4 - 6 ounces of fuel will dump. If you do replace it, use either a WIX or ACDelco unit. Before starting the car, turn the key ON, let the fuel pump prime, and turn the key OFF. Do this 3 times. During this procedure you may hear the rear level compressor run for 4 seconds also......don't confuse that with the fuel pump.......you can hear that by using an assistant and listening in the fuel fill pipe.

Bleed off the fuel pressure first, but I agree with Sub, no need to change it.

Would you change the filter if the car had over 100k miles on it?

Re: Fuel filter location on 2003 Deville DTS

I changed my fuel filter on my 02 Deville last week. It's just forward of the left rear tire. Took about 5 minutes to change once I had the rear end up on the ramps. I didn't relieve the fuel pressure as is recommended by the FSM. I slowly disconnected the threaded end first to relieve the pressure lost maybe 6 oz of fuel.

I have a different opinion than Sub on this one. Personally I don't change them unless they are clogged and they'll let you know when they are. I don't think I've changed one in the last 20 years. That said, it certainly can't hurt if you are so inclined.
