Bad. You have to drop the drivetrain to do it.

Re: 99 Deville oil pan gasket

well, I found another similar thread, and it spoke of oil cooler lines and the filter adapter. I think my leak is on the driver's side, and it was the guy at Monro who said I needed a pan gasket. He might not have even looked that hard. I trust those guys just about enough to change my oil.

Are the oil cooler lines and filter on the driver's side?

And before anyone rags on me about not changing my own oil, it cost $29 for Monro to do it, it would cost me more than that to do it myself.

    Thanks!!!!! tim

The oil cooler lines leave the oil filter adapter, which is on the "front" left bank of the engine, and snake around to the passenger side radiator end tank.

If Monroe is doing your oil and filter, using 7.5 quarts of the recommended viscosity oil, that comes out to about $3.25 a quart and $4.50 for a filter with $0 labor. That is undoubtedly the cheapest oil change currently in the U.S. !!!

$30 is not too bad of a price I guess, but you should be able to do it yourself for about half of that if you where so inclined.

Other common leak points are oil filter adapter, oil pressure switch, oil level sensor. You need to get a better look.

I also am told I have an oil pan leak on my 97 DeVille. Cady dealer quoted 11.5 hrs labor to replace gasket at around $1500+. Evidently it is a big big job!! Calling around I found one independent mechanic who says he does them for around $650. Guy comes highly recommended so I may give him the job. Interestingly he says get DEX COOL out of engine. Most shops won't touch the Cady oil pan gasket replacement. I'm so confused.

Most shops won't touch it because they know that the drivetrain must be dropped. Don't worry about Dex. Just change it when it's supposed to be changed OR SOONER.
