Factory Radio Plug & Play?

Remove this ad
Hello everyone – I have a question about the factory radio in my 99 Deville. The OEM AM/FM Cassette player no longer accepts tapes (so I can’t play my IPOD anymore). I have acquired another 99 Deville OEM am/fm cassette player to replace it.

Here is my question. Are the factory radios plug & play? In other words, can I switch them out without screwing up and/or setting off the anti-theft system, or do I need to take it into a dealership to make the switch and reprogram? It is not a Bose system if that makes any difference.

Thanks in advance!

One I know....not PNP, will have to be programmed. Not very handy for owners, but does help with broken into cars.

Re: Factory Radio Plug & Play?

The best option in my opinion is to get an OEM 12 disc changer that mounts in the trunk. It increases the sound quality a bit and requires no rewiring. You have a dummy plug in your trunk on the passenger side under the trunk carpet. You can plug and play a GM changer. We just got one at my workplace, PM me if your interested.

Re: Factory Radio Plug & Play?

Thanks for the replies. Ive moved all my music over to my iPod, so I don't listen to CD's anymore - thanks though.

Well, I guess I'll be taking it to the dealer to program. They said they would do it for $100 bucks. Oh well.
