I have a 94 Sedan Deville and I was wanting to do an A-pillar gauge setup or something so it doesnt look so tacky under the dash. I surely dont care for the tuner look so I am not going for the row of pods. Just one maybe up high on the pillar? Anybody done this and have any pics or anything like this? A digital gauge with green lights would be killer. I plan on doing alot of things to this car as it was my fathers car first. I am not a kid mind you I am 34 so, I want a classy yet gangster look. 20's and an air system are also on my list and would love any ideas and input. Thanks alot. |

There aren't too many aftermarket options for Deville given the usual owner demographic, particularly for gauge clusters. IIRC the car may actually monitor oil pressure in PSI even if you only have an idiot light, but its only available when you run diagnostics. IF you could find a gauge setup calibrated to that sender it would be an easy wire tap and mount, but first you'd need some research on the sender. Can't say that I've ever seen that mod posted here before. |

I have toyed around with this idea myself. I would really like to add a tach to my Fleetwood but do not want the tuner look or some giant ugly gauge stuck to my dash. I though it would be really cool to put it in the ash tray and have it pop up when I slide the tray out. That way I could fold it down into the ash tray and it would not be visible. Like you I think it would be awesome if I could find one with a green digital readout, but its not easy to locate.

I looked at these gauges as a guideline because of their color, price, and digital readout. I would like to install it as high up as possible so that it doesn't appear like a tuner.
I love the car and forsee putting a lot of time trying to restore (for lack of a better word) the car so I can enjoy it for years too come. I have a new transmission and the body is fairly nice. The Mileage is nice as well. I have the Chapman Roof. |

What is/are 20s? No such thing as a 'classy gangster look' for a Cadillac...IMO. A Cadillac already is a classy look. |

I'm sure you're aware of what 20's are? (rims) and there is always, a "Classy Gangster" look! Yeah Cadillac's are already gangster. But, every car could stand a few classy upgrades. Opinions are great but come on, I am asking for advice to keep my oil pressure gauge discreet and assuring the Cadillac masses that I am not going to chop it up too much or do the standard custom stuff ie: hydraulics, candy paints, funky interior... Don't get me wrong, it's cool but, it's not for me and my daily rider. The rims are to fill up the wheel wells and the air is to maintain a certain ride height. No hopping going on here. Anyways, I love spokes! not 13inch spokes, just spokes. I would like to think I am a purist when it comes to these cars but, I need a few things to express my individuality from the guy who pulls up next to me in the same car. |

Anyways, My Cadillac is "gangster" "how about them apples?" |

Maybe I'll do some eye candy work, dress her up like a spring special and do some lighting work and '94 Deville chrome wheels, but nothing that wouldn't look OEM.
Anyways, a oil pressure gauge might be able to read the pressure where the computer reads it. If you could tap into the lead there, it would work well, but I'm not sure if you could do that. Either way it will be better then on earlier cars, like the '69 Camaro for example, where the oil pressure gauge needed a oil line to run through the dash.
I was thinking about a tach, but the one I want I can't afford right now.In order to avoid looking out of place, I'd suggest a gauge size of no more then 2.5 inches.
Edit: if anyone wants to know, this is the tach I want, $299 MSRP, I could have gotten one for 90 though.

Rodya234, It was the same in the mid-60's as right now: If you want an accurate temperature or pressure gauge, mechanical is the answer. A slew of us used to be pretty good at snaking capillary tubing all over the place.......ask Dkoz about the turbo boost gauge on a '64 Corvair Spyder.
The tach is eye candy. 10K rpm looks strong (Oh, WOW !!! 10K !!!), but with a redline shift of 5,750 (4.9 ?), you lose 43% of the definition. |

When I was doing some work on my Fleetwood I had to run 2 wires through the firewall. I thought, "Oh, this will be easy. I will just run it through the wire harness that already passes through. Just push some wires aside, easy as cake." Nope. The wires were coated in epoxy where they passed though the firewall. I wound up drilling a hole and then having to cut away a small hole in the nearly 1" of sound insulation (very thick, tough, nasty foam stuff) to run my wires. | | Cadillac Discussion Tools | | |
