My father just bought a 1999 Deville. The Drivers Front turn signals do not work at all. However if I signal a left turn, the rears do work (flash fast though). I put new bulbs in the front, and even swapped in another headlight w/ a different harness. Still no luck. I used a multimeter on the large white connector, but could not located a 12 volt that flashed on and off. I checked the passengers side connector, and was able to locate a pin that powered on and off in accordance to the flashers(w/ right turn signaled).
So for some reason I am not getting a a 12 volt flasher signal- to the drivers front turn signal lights. Where should I begin to look? Can anyone explain how the power is distributed to the front and rear signals? I assume that if the rears work, then the problem must be somewhere between wherever that power spilts, and the drivers side headlight connector.
Any help with this problem would be greatly appreciated.
BTW the cornering light does not seem to work either on the drivers side, and the hazard lights do not work. I will replace the hazard flasher tomorrow to see if that corrects anything, but I doubt it will.
Sorry for the long post. |

The first thing I would chase is the ground to the driver's side light module. If the cornering and turn signal lamps do not work I'd find the ground and verify that it is good since it is common to both those lights. After that it may be either a bad wiring connector or damaged wiring. The good news is that if the rears are working its unlikely a problem in the steering column. The bad news is that leaves much of the car left to search. A Factory Service Manual will show a detailed wiring diagram with all the connectors, pinouts and locations. |

I just got the FSM in the mail (paid $10 on ebay for both books in new condition), but these wiring diagrams are giving me a headache. I can see a little of how the system works, but it doesn't help me trace where the wires are routed. Ill look at it again.
When you say the Light Module, where can I find this part? is there another name for this part? |

Does this change where I should look for the problem?
Now the problems are:
1. NO turn signal lights on drivers front.
2. When i put on the left turn signal, the arrow on the dash does not flash, even though the rear signal flashes (fast).
3. NO hazard lights, I don't know if this is related. (no arrows illuminate on the dash either when hazards are switched on) |

When you had no cornering light the ground was a convenient common denominator. Your update that the cornering light works changes that since you obviously have ground for the cornering light. You should start with a test light or voltmeter and see if there is any voltage at the DS turn signal connector using a known good ground elsewhere. Use a voltmeter to measure the resistance from the ground wire to a known good ground. I would also check the hazard and flasher relays; pull them out and check to see if the contacts are clean and tight. If they are the same part number, swap them and see what happens. The flashing rear light makes me think you either have a high resistance switch connection somewhere or a bad ground. | | Cadillac Discussion Tools | | |
