I want to swap the concours engine & trans into the 97 base devill. Can i do this? Concour is a "9" vin with floor shift and base is a "y" vin with column shift. |

The base DeVille had a 275hp engine and the Concours had a 300hp engine from what I've read. Don't know about the trans differences if any. If the mounts are the same, I don't see why the swap couldn't be done. The PROM from the Concours would prolly be needed. It would be an interesting project! |

The cooling system has differences in piping and radiators, as well as fan controls. As you know, the VIN 9 uses a 3.71 final drive and the VIN Y uses 3.11, so transmission and speed sensor output is different. The console change is also mechanical and electrical, as well as trim and carpet. The security, key, and sound system figures in here, too, as they're all inter-related.
I think the swap could be done with patience and a good shop to work in, but it will be way, way more than a simple drop-in. |

It should feed to a valve on the top rear of the engine, near the throttlebody, and it requires an electrical hookup to the PCM (and maybe vacuum to the throttlebody). Different years have different EGR plumbing and operation.
Take a look at the pad on the side of the block just under the front of the right exhaust manifold....there should be a "VIN derivative" stamped there, and that's part of the original car number, so a GM dealer can tell you what engine you have. |
