Nicer than some expensive new cars I've been in and around. There are a few new parts, but not much.
Our '92 Roadmaster Limited has 185k miles with EVERYTHING ORIGINAL, and both looks and runs like a car with 50-60k easy miles. The car is awesome and what pushed us to get rid of the '69 Chevelle and buy the Fleetwood. Some parts of the car I actually like more than the Caddy...but I think I like the Caddy a little more overall.
Our '02 Chevy Avalanche Z66 has 22k, which seems quite high to us, considering we've had it for a year and 3 months. It will be out of warranty next year already, but has been pretty much flawless.
Oh, I forgot to mention! The Buick and Caddy get about the best gas mileage of any vehicles we've ever owned. Despite being such big, heavy, V8-powered road warriors, they just barely sip the gas. Always around 25MPG, regardless of conditions....the Avalanche can only get around 15, sometimes close to 18 if cruising steady on the highway. I just don't understand it! |

Do you have this problem where your engine stalls or nearly stalls when you have less than like 5 gals of gas? It seems the fuel pump is having a hard time whenever there's little gas and nearly kills the engines when I come to an abrupt stop or when I make a righthand turn with little gas, as if the fuel pump can't seem to catch the sloshing fuel or something. This problem completely dissappears whenever there's more than about 7 gals of gas. |

Keep in mind that 5 gals is a quarter tank - thats 5 bags of milk - which is still a lot! If I remember correctky the reason it does that is a design flaw in the gas tank??? |

That's what I was implying... no gas tank should have trouble like this, in fact, I haven't heard of any other car having this problem. It indeed seems like an inherent design flaw, but there's nothing I can or would like to do about it; I'll just try to top it off as often as I can, even though the additional weight of the fuel might lead to decrease in fuel economy, which should be minimal at best. |

The computer then tries to "stall save" it. I don't remember if making right hand turns with a little gas causes it too. It didn't used to do this until about a month ago. The problem does indeed go away when there's more than 5 or 6 gallons in the tank.
I think that:
- the baffles may have shifted
- the fuel screen in the tank is goofed up so that part of it is sticking up in the air when the fuel gets below 5 or 6 gallons
- the fuel pump is getting weak.
If it's any of these three, I think we can take comfort in the fact that if we have a couple of jackstands and a floor jack, fixing/replacing things isn't that difficult and not very expensive. I understand that a new fuel pump is $105 and a new screen is $13. As for the baffles, if they're broken, I'd suppose our recourse would be to go to a junkyard and get a used tank with the sender unit, pump, etc. I did that for my 1985 DeVille and it worked wonderfully.
Also, don't forget to checkout http://www.caddyinfo.com and look at the "Caddyinfo.com board". Make sure to make use of the "Searchable Archives". It's amazing the technical competence of the folks who hang out over there. Two of them helped design the computers in our Caddys!
You'll get good answers there. I post there, too as "TimHu".

When the distributor problem is fixed, I'm confident it will run perfectly again. |
