I just think it's a waste to just garage a car and only drive it once in awhile. IMHO, the guy that has a Porsche in the garage but drives a Toyota everyday is an idiot. |

The ones that are in bad condition are the ones that werent driven....... The ones that are driven a lot are the ones that are nice, and the ones that run the best..... Sure, you dont NEED to run it every day, but you still want to use it.......
Besides, if you dont drive your nice car, people wont know that you have it!!!! |

Yeah, they're great to look at, and to be seen with, but in the end if that's all you think they're good for, you're a shallow human being with no appreciation for something truely wonderful. |

Up here, we have snow and salt on the roads 5 or 6 months of the year, and my dad didn't spent 70,000 dollars on a new DTS to drive in in that crap! That's why, if you really care about your car, you have a second car to take the salt, tree sap, hail, bird****, guys throwing beer bottles off the freeway walkway, etc, etc. I certainly do not think that if a car sits for a month or so at a time that it is being abused. There are too many definitions that you could think of when I used that word, ie. not changing the oil, driving in salt, etc. Some may even consider racing any car a form of abuse. (with different levels of severity, of course.) Appreciation for something wonderful can be worshipped in many different ways, and in my family that means keeping it looking like new, not driving in rain (unless you can help it.), etc. I am fanatical when it comes to even a puddle of water, especially if I have just polished the rims, paint and armoralled the tires, etc. My pics are being downsized right now so I can get them up in a week or so, so you will see what I mean. Personally, I think a clean car means you got it right upstairs. In my business, you can always tell a personality by how clean a car is, the home, physical appearance, how a person dresses etc. It is the same with cars, you know by appearance (in general) if it is cared for or not. Now I am overanalyzing everything to death. PS I do wish my dad would drive his new DTS more because it is summertime, he only has 500 kms on it since delivery in Feb, and I want them to take advantage of the Onstar if they have an accident, etc. I am not complaining! |

IMHO, the guy that has a Porsche in the garage but drives a Toyota everyday is an idiot. | I think musclecars like SS Chevelles, etc. were designed to be raced, and driven hard, that's why they have more heavier duty components built in them. But you must wonder that if it is driven hard everyday, without concern (abuse to me) or regard for longevity, how long will it really last? Yes, we can argue about oil change intervals, etc, etc. but I believe that if you jackrabbit start from every light, race every punk you see in a Civic, and don't care where or when (climate) you drive it, it won't last as long. There are many conditions that I deem worthy of the label "abuse" it is hard to try to define all of them, but everyone has a different meaning so it is totally subjective in this regard.
I respect people that try to care for their cars, as I know you do Kat because you know all the maintenance schedules and requirements, etc. But a lot of people IMO "abuse" their cars in so many different ways that I would be very leary to buy a used car. Take for example the term "lady driven" that I see in many car for sale adds. I laugh at this because with the exception of Jerseygirl, I don't think too many women know what an oil change interval is! Granted this may be a bad example because a lot of guys don't know when to change it either! I am just trying to prove a point by this example.
I think the guy who has a sports car in the garage, and drives a Toyota to work everyday is smart. I would not want door dinges on my new Porsche, I can live with it on my junker for peace of mind. Certain cars are meant to be weekend cars. C'mon Kat, there must be times or places where you will not take or park your baby, I mean Caddy? Right??! :disappoin |

When I bought my Fleetwood last December it only had 14K on it. It is now at 20k. I bought it because it was a good used car value. Not because I could keep it in a garage for 20 years and make a whole 4k dollar profit, maybe. |

Ralph, hate to burst your bubble but, most of the old "muscle cars" were virtually mechanically identical to the lesser versions of the same model. Few "heavy-duty" upgrades were made on most because back then most people only cared about how fast the car was and how fast it looked.
And as for driving my car "anywhere", yeah, there's some places I don't drive it and we take my wife's car. But generally speaking, I drive the car all the time because I enjoy "driving" it more than just "having" it. | | Cadillac Discussion Tools | | |
