New fuel pump @ 75,000, tranny @ 192,000, Radiator exploded while in Cadillac shop@180,000, they fixed the radiator and demanded that I take the car immediately to a junk yard, causing my wife to almost have a nervious breakdown, new plugs@ 185,000 (fixed a ton of lingering problems that Cadillac could not diagnose), had an uncontrollable acceleration problem at 180,000 that Cadillac fixed without admitting finding a fault. Car has a permanent rumble in the chassis that I have spent $1,800 on to no avail. It is now showing symptoms of a head gasket leak.
Cadillac service sucks for everything except warranty work om a new car. |

Sounds like you have had long service with your Cady! That's great.
I think the problem with most service centers is the lack of quality diagnostic skills. Anyone with good reading comprehension and moderate mechanical abilities can service any vehichle with the right tools, training and equipment. There seems, in my experience, to be a shortage of mechanics and technicians that are good at diagnosing problems. |

I have a '92 Allante presently showing just over 191,700 miles. I've only owned the car a couple of years, so someone else put most of those miles on it, but I have a batch of maintenance history documents and there is nothing about the engine ever being rebuilt. Is the engine getting a little tired? I don't know what it was like when new, but it certainly feels good to me, and it uses a quart of oil in about 3,000 miles. This is not the Northstar, but the 4.5 V8. |

Dealer replaced ECM and oil pan gasket under warranty. Once warranty was out, Cadillac didn't want to help with firewall that cracked, flooding interior at 90,000. "That car has too many miles on it, it is beyond the expected life of a Cadillac", quote from Cadillac district service manager. That shouldn't happen to any car! Also at 60,000 the paint on lower plastic trim peeled. ( Beige metalic, "Antelope Mist") I have seen several like that fixed under extended warranty but not mine- "too many miles". Replaced gas tank(creased sheet metal when fabricated, finally cracked open), 3 fuel pumps, 3 water pumps, radiator side tanks twice (again, no warranty) ignition module, master cylinder, rear wheel cylinders, rotors and calipers, (again, no warranty) and tiny plastic parts on headlight assy. that crumbled with age. Heater stoped blowing air, dealer tells me he thinks it is a plastic shutter inside, estimates $900! Warranty only on items noted, other requests for coverage were met with "you have the audacity to request that?" I LOVE driving this car, but these wierd problems are annoying and expensive. Car gets 19mpg overall. I do believe that cars were not built to sit still. |

Seals are good, no leaks, no weird noises. Still has a slight hesitation after cold starting when accelerating from stop, but after 3-4 times it seems to go away. I changed the plugs, wires, PCV, air and fuel filters, and did an oil and lube, but the problem still persists. EGR is next to check.
Here's hoping I get another 100,000K outta' the old girl. |

All these mileage reports are both impressive and uplifting for anyone with one of these beauties. I was in the limo business in the mid 90's and we had many Caddys and Lincoln's with 200-300K on the clock and with proper maintenance they looked like new. Both interior and outside finish. Our killer was body style changes which in that business you either are current or at most one generation away or you can't use the car. Mileage didn't retire them body changes did. |
