Coolant fluid in transmission

Remove this ad
The transmission oil tank in the radiator have busted and now
the transmission is full of engine coolant.

Transmission is now slipping so much the car wont move.

Somebody told me i'll need a new trans.

Is there something else i can do before putting in a new one?

Re: Coolant fluid in transmission

You could try flushing everything, but if you tried to drive already I fear it might be to late. Transmissions don't last long if they don't have trans fluid in them. It may require a rebuild.

I'd also try to find out if you have trans fluid in your coolant too.

Re: Coolant fluid in transmission

It is likely that your coolant as well is contaminated with trans fluid. Not as bad as coolant in the trans. After you replace the radiator, flush both systems. You might save the trans, depending on how long the coolant has been in there and how much it has been drive that way.
