A friend of mine got a 1992 Fleetwood 60 Special a few days ago.
He´s very lucky having this car. It´s in very good conditions and the car runs great. Only one thing is negative. He drives it in Germany on the Autobahn, so the top speed limit is disturbing him.
Is there a way to remove the top speed limiter?
best regards
Mike

But yes, the most common (and probably easiest) way to disable top speed fuel shutoff is to get a Fastchip. I have one on my '91 and it works very well, with the mods my top speed is about 150mph or so. Also remind him that 4.9's don't like to be revved over 5000rpm, unless you enjoy changing water pumps.
Here is the site for Fastchip: http://www.fastchip.com/ |

My '88 simply runs out of umph at about 105 mph. It doesn't hit a rev limiter or a speed limiter, it just doesn't go no faster.

So I assume that 138mph is the speed at which the wind resistance equals 210hp on that car. (I got about 10hp from the addition of the fastchip.)
Even now at 275hp my car can just barley do over 150mph, it seems that much horsepower should get you going faster, but remember, for the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 to accelerate to 155mph only takes 270hp, but to get to 253mph takes all 987hp! |

She's old and very rusty. It has already devoured 2 transmissions and I do not feel like rebuilding another. |

Rodya you wrote that the speed limiter works with a fuel shut off?! isn´t it a easier and cheaper way to simply connect the fuel pump relay directly to
clamp15 / ignition switched batt. + ?
I really know that the engine wouldn´t automatically turn off when there´s no oil pressure left, but therefor he´s got an instrument^^
... and yeah... it is really disturbing to drive just 112 mph on the autobahn. Right... 82 mph is only the SUGGESTED speed.
But every small toillet with about 90 hp´s goes faster.
It´s like you go to a shootout with a sword. Maybe the sword has much style but for all that everyone is beating you and laughing at you.
I drive an 87 Camaro z28, and the first thing i did when i´ve bought him, was to throw off the speed limiter. |

The speed limiter is a PROM that's burned into the ECM, any attempt to bypass it may cause a ECM problem, which could prevent the vehicle from running properly. The fast chip solves the problem by simply replacing the chip that contains the speed limiter PROM with one that dose not. |

On my '95 when it topped out at 112 it felt like I had hit a rev limiter, but no fuel shut off. My friend's Camaro shuts the fuel off at 130 and it is scary as hell. You lose everything, power steering, power brakes and you have to come to a complete stop before you can restart the car. |
