2003 Cadillac Dts System Problems

hello, i am new to the site and i am a new owner of my first cadillac .
i have had it for roughly 2 months and everything was fine until recently.

Car : 2003 Cadillac dts

Problems: there were/are times i would park my car then later put it in drive to leave and the car would shut off.car would start back up like nothing happened.numerous times i have been at a red light and the car would just shut off and start back up with no problem.recently i was leaving work when my car would not start.when i turned the key all i heard was clicking noises throughout the entire car.after letting it sit for fives minutes the car finally started.tonight i went to get food and the car cut off in the drive-thru .i put it in park and turned the key, it started but it strained to start (if that makes any sense).the car still runs good besides the random points where it has a mind of it's own and decides it wants to cut off.also for the past 2 to 3 weeks i have been seeing a message in the dash that says "Service Theft System" and now i hear a very faint knocking sound when the car is idle.

i have an appointment with the cadillac dealer monday morning.i came to these forums to get feedback or any suggestions before i drop my car off to them.any help and tips are greatly appreciated.

P0385 - Crankshaft Position (CKP) Sensor B Circuit
Common problem on the 2000 - early '03's. Do a search for CKP sensor, You need to change them both.

Search in here, Seville, and Northstar Performance for threads concerning stalling, coast-down stall, DTC P0300, P0385/6, P0335/6.

New CKP's (CranKshaft Position sensor) are: one gray, one black, made in Japan, not Mexico (siemens). Try Luke in Parts at Lindsay Cadillac, M-F, 9-5 EDT -----------> over there, or www.rockauto.com.

You might need a few of the plastic retainers which hold the lower splash shield - they tend to break - pull the center button out 1/4" and wiggle the retainer out. The CKP's are retained with 10mm bolts and can be a pain to remove: there isn't much room.

thank you all for the responses.also i gave the wrong model.it is an SLS not Dts as i previously stated. .besides the ckp, do any of the other codes pose a serious problem or something i should look into ?

I just read your original post (OP) again, and if you are going to have the dealer do the CKP's, I would hope the work is under warranty because the dealer will charge a non-warranty about $350 - $450 to do the job.

All of the U codes are communications and voltage hiccups and can generally be ignored unless one particular U code keeps coming back or stays Current.

There are several recent (many, many older) posts which give links to DTC (codes) translation. Search these recent threads and also in Northstar Performance.

thanks for all the help and info.both ckp's were changed this morning also found out i have a cracked motor mount.was informed that was also a common problem with these cars.now i will have that fixed.besides that the dealer told me nothing else was wrong with the car (nothing else the computer could find)
just pulled the codes to see if anything would pop up and now there is a new code DDM b1715 (current).i have search all over these forums and have found nothing about this code.does anyone have knowledge on it ? this is a good forum, thanks for all the help!

All of the OBDII codes are listed here but I don't see a B1715. If I had to guess, based on the codes around it I would say it has something to do with a power mirror.

Yeah, I tend to disregard the prefix. I've seen so many posted wrong. If I don't find it in one section, then I try another and usually find it there.

So how do you tell if a motor mount is cracked?

Easy, if it's been more than 20k miles since you replaced it, it's cracked or completely ripped from the chassis like mine was at 24k.

Seriously this is really a regular maintenance part. just do it like every 30k and you'll be all set.
