Overheating Help

Remove this ad
Hi All Just bought a 97 DeVille at the action, car looks perfict and run fine untill I got 8 miles from the action. 1st thing that it did was to tell me that the coolant was low, 2nd engine overheating, 3rd turn off engine. I lost most of the power and was almost forced to pull over and let the thing cool off. Next thing I added water after it cooled down for 30 to 40 min., checked the oil and it was milky. It wasn't like that when I checked it at the action. Started it up and its blowing compression into the resavour and it blowes most of the water back out.
Whats my next step
Have always fixed my own cars in the past but not a Cadillac

Re: Overheating Help

There are some tests. exhaust gas in the coolant, cyl pressure test, to be sure but it sounds like blown HG's. A long tedious process but one that many of us have done at home. Here's a thread I did.

http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums...ir-part-i.html (N* Head Gasket repair part I/ Remove engine)

Tateos recently completed his, you can search for it or he make post a link. Search Northstar forum and you'll find more.

Check the thermostat (it has to have one) the cap and the surge line before you go too far. The milky coolant makes a strong case for HG's.

I think this is a dead giveaway. Hope you got it for a real good price.

Re: Overheating Help

Well, now you know why it was at the auction. I run into these cars all the time at auctions. There was a mint condition '99 Deville and a recent one I attended and it sold for only $700 w/66k or so on the odo. Had I not experienced the wrath of N* motor prior, I would have picked it up in a hearbeat!.

Re: Overheating Help

That is a great deal for someone who can do the repair themselves. Not so good for someone who can't. One mans trash is the next mans treasure.
