94 Concours 4.6L Northstar radiator fans not working

Remove this ad
I have a 1994 Cadillac Deville Concours with a 4.6 L Northstar engine - with a Y designation on the VIN number. The radiator fans located behind the radiator - in front of the engine do not work. Trying to fix it myself because of the gouging costs and lack of knowledge of mechanics. Coolant is boiling over and seems to be coming out of the overflow hose, so I think it is the fans. I have a Chilton repair manual supposedly showing where the cable connection is for the fans - only it doesn't match what I see under the hood. Have put in a new thermostat. What I'd like to know is the exact location of the cable connection for the fans to see if it is plugged in and if I get the fans working to see if it cools the engine. Would appreciate any help. Thanks in advance.

The fans run anytime the A/C is on. Turn the A/C on and see if they work. Then do a search for "Purge Line" and check to see if it is clogged. That will cause it to overheat. If OK, have the coolant tested for exhaust gases.

Re: 94 Concours 4.6L Northstar radiator fans not working

The fans don't work at all we have the A/C disconnected by short belt, in other words the compressor does not turn. First of all we want to find out where the electrical connection for the fans plugs in so we can check that first before we imperically check the other things. We're hoping someone can tell us where the electircal connection to the fan is to give it power.

Boy, you're talking about a wiring schematic. Unless you find someone here with one, I'd check Ebay and buy one.
