98 deville: my coolant resevior overflow expansion tank went bad with a leak....i was wondering a couple of things: first, is it easy to pop out and replace? second, its a small hole but enough---would j.b. weld work to hold the leak if applied correctly? thirdly, does anyone know of any oem or good websites to go to buy another one??????

Several members have tried JB Weld and it seems to hold for a little while. You might try www.car-part.com , otherwise it's dealer time (which is probably your best bet, long-term).

Re: 98 deville---need coolant overflow expansion tank

I would not JB Weld the tank even though JB weld is great for alot of things however being that the cooling system on the Northstars is pretty important i would just replace the tank. I had a small leak in mine like two years ago it was a very small leak and it took me like two weeks to find. Because the coolant was squirting into the serpentine belt but you could only see when you would accelerate the car. Well to make a long story short a brand you tank cost me about $90-$100 plus labor i paid like $160 total. because i looked at doing it myself but you have to remove the accumulator in order to get the tank out and replace which you will then probably have to recharge your a/c at least i had to do that after mine was replaced.

Good Luck!!!

Re: 98 deville---need coolant overflow expansion tank

I can tell you from experience that as good as JB Weld is, it won't last. I had the purge line nipple leak on my '97 and did a VERY good patch job. It held for a year or so and when I sold it my neighbor bought it. He replaced the tank this spring.
