Tempature ???? 99 Deville

Today I noticed my Tempature went up big time in the city. It went up to 230 and stayed there. Usually it would go to about 224 and then bounce right down to 216 but today it stayed up at 230 then on the way home I got off the highway it went to 228 and stayed there. Should I check for anything or does this seem common ?

It happens. To improve mileage and decrease emissions these cars run very hot. My '95 will go all the way to 220 before the fans even kick in. You need to start worrying about it when it gets around 140-145. The car will tell you it is over heating at 148 and tell you to idle the engine. Somewhere around 155 it tells you to shut the engine off to prevent damage.

When was the last time you changed your coolant? Also check to make sure the coolant is full.

I topped it off about three weeks agao. I will check it again once it cools down. Thanks for your time

The coolant surge tank should be about half full, COLD. Check your fan fuses in the engine compartment box.

I would agree with submariner409 because as far I know that is not normal. On most devilles the fans kick in at about 224-226. For example on mine it usually goes up to 224-226 only when i'm stuck in five o'clock traffic even though it doesn't help that i live in florida, but i usually will drop back down to about 205-210 and then continue to drop as i drive. But from what you explain i would check the fan to make that they are coming and if they are not check the fuses.
