Replace Driver No. 1 with my name

I was reading the manual for my 2001 dts that I could replace driver no.1 and driver no.2 with a proper name. The manual said that the dealer needed to do it, but I was wondering if it is something I can do myself. I just bought the car and I am still having fun playing with all the neat features. In the short time that I have had my car this site has been very helpful with many of my questions, but I could'nt find this one on here.

The car needs to be connected to a GM diagnostic scan/programmer called a Tech-II. ($4,000+ in case you get ideas....) Dealer job. If you bought the car from a GM dealer they should do the name change at no charge. Otherwise they'll charge you some portion of a labor hour.

While you're pushing DIC buttons, go to the top of these forum pages and learn how to pull and interpret DTC's (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) and also go to the sticker on the underside of the spare tire cover to find the RPO (Regular Production Option) codes for what's actually in your car. Download the RPO list from here or go to www.cadillacfaq.com/rpo/index.php and create your own printout.

I just had mine done last month. I just went to the dealer and said i had a friend who told me about this. They said if i got my oil changed (which i was gonna do anyways) they would do it for me for free. he also put outside temp on dic

I figured that it was probably a dealer job, but I do appreciate the responses. I had already figured out how to pull codes, (thanks to this forum) but I didn't know about the RPO thing under my spare tire cover. I'll probably try the oil change strategy when I take it in to the dealer some time in the near future. I'll let you know if they afford me the same treatment.

I Have An 02 Dts And It Came Stock.

Just want to add my $ .02 on this. Take note that if you ever sell the car privately that may be a turn off to a perspective buyer.

They may not look at it as a simple task like we do.

Just a thought.

The outside temp has been standard on every Cadillac I've ever owned. On the 00 + Devilles it far right on the climate control display

EDIT: Ohh on the DIC. Is that not standard issue? Down arrow once from blank?

Yeah strange to me also but the temp was never on the dic. I just added (MVP) on mine. if i sell they will take it off for free also already checked. It is an easy procedure that took literally 2 min. I wonder what else they can add in dic?? oh there not adding any programs there just turning the function ON threw the tech 2

Using the INFO up/down arrows should get you a dozen or so different readouts: Blank, outside temp, average mileage, instant mileage, avg. speed, gallons used, miles to run on tank, volts, several more.........you can also display all instruments, speed only, or analog + digital speed.

What's the purpose of temp on the DIC, if it is on the radio display?
