Possible CV joint problem.

Remove this ad
When i accelerate from a dead stop there is a "shuddering vibration" that lasts a second or two.It happens about 6 out of 10 times i accelerate from a dead stop.Could this be a CV joint problem? If so,would they have to be leaking for them to be bad? Another way---if they were not leaking, could the CV joints still be bad?
1995 Sedan Deville--4.9 litre.
Thank you.

Re: Possible CV joint problem.

Define shuddering more. Does it feel like a general vibration that could be coming from anywhere or does it feel as though the car is shuddering foward and backward? CV joints are one of those things you notice at speed, not at acceleration. Mine does the foward and backward now and then when it is cold simply because the tranny fluid hasn't gotten moving through it properly yet.

Yes,it is a general shuddering/vibration.Sometimes it comes from the front area and sometimes from the middle/rear area.I read in my Haynes repair manual for my particular 1995 Sedan Deville that a shuddering/vibration upon acceleration from a stop could indicate a CV joint problem since it involves torque from the transaxle.

No codes at all.Could also be the "transaxle mounts".

Re: Possible CV joint problem.

its really hard to go off of, maybe this is related to your grinding problem perhaps?

Re: Possible CV joint problem.

Found the source of the grinding /vibration today.I was parked at a shopping mall at an uphill angle---i put the car in "park" and it started making the noise consistently.Honestly sounded the same as screws in a blender.I got out of the car while it was making the noise-----i crawled underneath as far as i could and put upward pressure on the big round exhaust coming off the converter and the noise stopped quick. The exhaust was vibrating on a support piece.I will have the support piece lowered slightly tomorrow---what a relief!
Earlier today i had my local mechanic check all the CV joints and transaxle mounts----all are in great shape.Lowering the support will be the fix for the noise that has annoyed me for the past 2 years.
